Edizione della tiratura a 100 esemplari privi di dati editoriali impressi al margine e di minor formato. Edita nella Jahresmappe der Gesellschaft für vervielfältigende Kunst, Wien, 1899. L' acquaforte riproduce fedelmente una delle versioni del celebre dipinto di Giovanni Segantini L' Angelo della Vita, eseguito nel 1894 e oggi conservato nella Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Milano. L'incisione ha contribuito al successo internazionale di questa incantevole creazione del periodo simbolista di Segantini. Mit e. adressierten Umschlägen. An den Schriftsteller und Kunstkritiker Vittorio Pica in Neapel über sein Vorhaben, ein Panorama des Engadin zu schaffen. Soglio 4.XI.1897. Manuskriptartiger, ausdrücklich zur Veröffentlichung bestimmter Brief, in dem Segantini in ausdruckstarken Bildern darlegt, weshalb nur ein Maler mit seiner Erfahrung in der Lage wäre, die Alpenwelt in einem großen Rundbild darzustellen. “... La notizia del panorama è vera: però siccome la stampa che se ne è in questi giorni occupata in Svizzera, in Germania ed in Francia ha in parte svisato la mia idea, ecco qual’è il vero mio concetto informatore. Sono più di 14 anni che studio nella natura dell’alta montagna gli accordi di un’opera alpina, composta di suoni e di colori, che contenga in se le varie armonie dell’alta montagna e le compendii in un’unica intera. Solo chi, come me ha vissuto interi mesi al di sopra degli alti luminosi pascoli alpini, nei giorni azzurri della primavera, ascoltando le voci che salgono dalle valli, le indistinte armonie affievolite di suoni lontani postati dai venti, che fanno intorno a noi un silenzio armonioso stendentesi in alto nell’infinito spazio azzurro, chiuso all’orizzonte dalle catene dei monti rocciosi e dai nevosi ghiacciai, può sentire e comprendere l’alto significato artistico di questi accordi. Io pensai sempre quanta parte avessero nel mio spirito quelle armonie di forme, di linee, di colori e di suoni e come l’anima che li governa e quella che li osserva e li ascolta siano una che nella comprensione si completa e si integra in un senso di luce che armonizza ed è armonia costante dell’alta montagna. Io mi sforzai sempre di comporre, in parte, questo senso nelle mie tele: Ma poiché pocchissimi lo sentono e lo comprendono, per circostanze varie, io credo che l’arte nostra sia incompleta e che rappesenti solo dettagli di bellezza e non l’intera bellezza armonica che vive e dà vita alla natura. Ecco perché pensai di comporre un’opera grandiosa, dove potessi chiudere, come in una sintesi, tutto il grande sentimento delle armonie alpine e scielsi per tema l’alta Engadina, come quella che io maggiormente studiai e che è la più varia e ricca di bellezza che io conosca ...” – Nach weiteren schwelgerischen Ausführungen kommt Segantini auf die veranschlagten Kosten zu sprechen. “... Per attuare questa mia opera chiesi ed ottenni da questi montanasi mezzo milione di Franchi e se ne occorressero di più ... attendo che il comitato Francese di belle Arti mi assegni il posto, onde innalzare l’edificio che contenga l’opera mia ...” Soglio 14.XI.1897. Segantini erteilt die Erlaubnis, den vorigen Brief in der Zeitschrift “Il Marzocco” zu drucken und legt seine Vorstellung von der Größe des Panorama-Gebäudes dar. “... Non conosco panorami esistente né a Parigi né altrove. Il mio verrà costrutto in ferro ed avrà una cupola di 84 metri d’altezza che mi darà campo di sviluppare un gran cielo. La circonferenza sarà di metri 220 con un diametro di 70. La tela dipinta del fondo misurerà 4,400 Mq. La costruzione verrà a costare un milione e mezzo ...” Soglo 14.II.1898. Das Projekt hat sich als nicht finanzierbar erwiesen. “... Il panorama dell’alta Engadina non si fa più. La difficolta del terreno portò a tre milioni il preventivo ed il progetto cascò davanti a difficolta finanzarie. Ho ... spedito a Voi ... una fotografia del mio ultimo lavoro ‘Primavera Alpina’ quadro destinato al museo di St. Francisco di California ...” Maloja 19.II.1899. “... Ieri Vi ho spedito la fotografia che mi avete chiesto del Quadro esposto dai secessionisti a Vienna ‘La Vanità’. Ora stò lavorando a un Trittico per la grande esposizione di Parigi ... Per Venezia dubito d’avere niente da esporre, essendomi impossibile di poter finire qualche parte dell’opera che stò facendo ...” Beiliegend ein weiterer e. Br. m. U., an einen gemeinsamen Bekannten (Cameroni) über die in diesem Monat zu Ende gehende II. Biennale von Venedig, auf der auch Segantini ausgestellt hatte (Soglio 3.X.1897, 2 S. gr.-4o, scharf beschnitten).

Es zeigt seinen Freund und Mentor Ercole Bertoni im schwarzen Drogistenkittel und betont dessen sanftmütigen Charakter. Die vier ursprünglich aus der Schweiz stammenden Bertoni-Brüder Carlo, Ercole, Giacomo und Giulio besassen und führten die renommierte Mailänder Drogerie "G. & C. Fratelli Bertoni", ein exklusives Geschäft für Gewürze, Fleisch, Wild und Fischkonserven, das in den 1880er-Jahren zahlreiche internationale Auszeichnungen erhielt. Die "Drogheria Bertoni" wurde zum Salon einer kleinen Gruppe von Linksintellektuellen anarchistischer und sozialistischer Gesinnung, des Bertoni-Kreises, der in der Geschichte des Sozialismus in Italien eine lebendige Spur hinterlassen hat. Ercole Bertoni war ein Freund Segantinis, der ihn finanziell unterstützte, bevor der Künstler bei Vittore Grubicy unter Vertrag genommen wurde. The portrait must have been painted around 1880, shortly after Segantini left the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera in Milan. It shows his friend and mentor Ercole Bertoni in a black chemist's smock and emphasises his gentle character. The four Bertoni brothers Carlo, Ercole, Giacomo and Giulio, originally from Switzerland, owned and ran the renowned Milan drugstore "G. & C. Fratelli Bertoni", an exclusive shop specialising in spices, meat, game and tinned fish, which won numerous international awards in the 1880s. The "Drogheria Bertoni" became the salon of a small group of left-wing intellectuals with anarchist and socialist leanings, the Bertoni circle, who left a vivid mark on the history of socialism in Italy. Ercole Bertoni was a friend of Segantini, who supported him financially before the artist signed a contract with Vittore Grubicy. Es zeigt den Kopf der "Madonna in Verzückung", wie es im Auktionskatalog von 1910 bezeichnet wird. Die Darstellung der Entzückung Madonnas auf goldfarbenem Hintergrund ist sehr bildhaft, beinahe ikonisch gemalt. In jener Auktion von 1910 bei Rudolph Lepke in Berlin wurde die Sammlung von Alberto Grubicy, Mailand, versteigert. Die beiden Brüder Alberto und Vittore Grubicy de Dragon (1852-1922 und 1851-1920) führten die Galleria Fratelli Grubicy in Mailand ab den späten 1870er Jahren mit dem Konzept, zeitgenössische Künstler auszustellen und zu vertreten, darunter Giovanni Segantini The work is dated to the years 1882-1884 and thus comes from the Brianza period. It shows the head of the "Madonna in rapture", as it is described in the auction catalogue of 1910. The depiction of Madonna in rapture on a gold-coloured background is painted in a very pictorial, almost iconic manner. Bildnis eines älteren Herrn. -- Öl auf Leinwand. 58 x 43 cm. Mittig rechts monogrammiert und datiert "GS [ligiert] / (18)80", verso mit einem Etikett der Galerie Oscar Hermes, München. -- -- Der aus Trentino stammende Giovanni Segantini gilt als bedeutender Vertreter des realistischen Symbolismus und wird auch als einer der Erneuerer der Alpenmalerei im 19. Jahrhundert angesehen. Aus schwierigen Familienverhältnissen kommend, absolvierte er ein kurzes Studium an der Kunstakademie Brera in Mailand, verließ jedoch schon bald die Stadt, um in ländlichere Gefilde zu ziehen. Schon früh als Freilichtmaler tätig widmete er sich in seinen Werken vor allem der Darstellung des Alltags der Bauern und Hirten und den monumentalen Hochgebirgslandschaften der Alpen, die in seinen Bildern durch seine ganz eigene, pointillistische Malweise eine immense Steigerung von Leuchtkraft und Lichtwirkung erfuhren. Abgesehen von seinen Landschaftsdarstellungen, war es jedoch besonders die Bildnismalerei, die Segantini faszinierte - er sah im Porträt "das Anspruchsvollste im Künstlerischen und Bildnerischen" und schätze seinen Stellenwert vor allem, da es "das Erforschen des menschlichen Antlitzes zum Ziel hat". Das vorliegende Bildnis eines alten Toscaners entstand schon 1880 während seiner frühen Schaffensjahre in Mailand und veranschaulicht damit seine bereits in jungen Jahren einsetzende Auseinandersetzung mit dieser bildkünstlerischen Gattung, die in der Betrachtung von Segantinis Œuvre häufig wenig Beachtung erfahren hat. -- -- - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. -- - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.

Pubblicata a Vienna nel 1899, l'acquaforte riproduce fedelmente una delle versioni del celebre dipinto di Giovanni Segantini L' Angelo della Vita, eseguito nel 1894 e oggi conservato nella Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Milano. In questo caso Wilhelm Woernle ha preso a modello la versione di piccolo formato del Museo Nazionale di Budapest. E' nota anche una tiratura di 100 esemplari dalla stessa matrice, ma su fogli di formato minore firmati a matita dall'incisore e con il timbro a secco dello stampatore, edita nella Jahresmappe der Gesellschaft für vervielfältigende Kunst, Wien, 1899. L'incisione ha contribuito al successo internazionale di questa incantevole creazione del periodo simbolista di Segantini. SEGANTINI Giovanni (1858 Arco, Österreich - 1899 Kanton Graubünden, Schweiz) ''Vergehen'', weites schneebedecktes Feld, hoch gelegen, im Hintergrund die Bergspitzen an denen eine Wolke vorbeizieht, rechts im Vordergrund zwei eingeschneite Häuser, davor eine Gruppe dunkel gekleideter Personen, links daneben ein vor einen Schlitten gespanntes weißes Pferd, Photogravure, handkoloriert, rückseitig betitelt und nummeriert, Blatt Nr. 4393, Bruckmann-Verlag München um 1900, 30x48cm, R *Das Original (1898/99, 190x322cm) befindet sich im Segantini Museum in St. Gallen (CH).* *Segantini studierte an der Kunstakademie Brera in Mailand. Er ist als großer Maler der Berge und des naturnahen Lebens von Bauern mit ihren Tieren bekannt. Er fand mit dem Divisionismus eine moderne künstlerische Ausdrucksform, dank der die Alpen in neuem Licht und frischer Farbigkeit erstrahlen. Seine Werke sind in öffentlichen Sammlungen vertreten.*
