Artist info: later also called himself "Hans Sengthaler Mehlweg" after the place of his childhood. Painter, draughtsman, graphic artist and sculptor (1892 Schellenberg/Bavaria to 1968 Hallein), initially childhood in Marktschellenberg, district of Mehlweg in Berchtesgadener Land, school attendance in Hallein, pupil at the Hallein technical college under Johann Schmied and Stanislaus Rainer, from 1910 one-year stay as a sculptor in Switzerland, 1911 study trips, temporary studies at the Schmidt state technical college painting school in Vienna, from 1912 resident in Munich, here pupil under Hermann Urban and Hubert Spannring, after the 1st World War studio in the Munich artist's studio. In addition to painting, here again his special love for landscape painting, Sengthaler also worked as a graphic artist and sculptor. Sengthaler München" Framed in original contemporary frame Overall dimensions: 70,5 x 90,5 cm Very good condition This fine landscape painting by landscape painter Hans Sengthaler from Berchtesgaden depicts a mountain pasture with a hut and an impressive Alpine scenery. A long shadow in the foreground directs the view to the narrow Alpine huts. A fence separates the mountain pasture from the mountain ranges in the background. The banister seems to fall off behind the hut. The sky over the scenery is overcast with several sluggish summer clouds. Sengthaler used the sunlight in this composition in an impressive way to create a summery atmosphere and to model the ruggedness and depth of the Alps. The painting is, besides soiling, in very good condition. The frame shows traces of age and usage. The painting is signed, "H. Sengthaler München", at the lower right. The overall dimensions are 70.5 x 90.5 cm, the stretcher bar measures 60 x 80 cm. Hans Sengthaler (1892 - 1968) Sengthaler grew up in Berchtesgaden. After he graduated school he attended the art class of the Halleiner University of Applied Sciences and Arts. In addition to painting Sengthaler took an interest in graphic design and sculpting. He moved to Munich in 1912 and ran a studio there. Sengthaler had already lived through rough times during the First World War before he became famous when a bomb destroyed his studio and many of his works of art during the Second World War. He returned to his home town and devoted himself to landscape painting. His fine sense of colour and form stand out about this style of painting.
