ROSA SERRA PUIGVERT (Vic, Barcelona, 1944). Female figure in torsion. Bronze. Unique piece, 1/1. Signed and numbered. Measurements: 57 x 43 x 22 cm.

    Est: €4,000 - €4,500

ROSA SERRA PUIGVERT (Vic, Barcelona, 1944). Female figure in torsion. Bronze. Unique piece, 1/1. Signed and numbered. Measurements: 57 x 43 x 22 cm. Sculpture of marked formal synthesis that condenses one of the most recognizable languages of Rosa Serra: the reduction of the feminine body to wide, organic volumes and of great internal tension. The figure, constructed from enveloping curves and polished surfaces, eliminates all accessory details to concentrate on the expressiveness of the volume and the balance of masses, generating a sensation of contained movement and sculptural rotundity. The torsion of the body and the ascending arrangement reinforce this internal dynamic, while the warm patina of the bronze accentuates the continuity of the forms and the tactile sensuality of the piece. This type of stylization, where the human figure approaches the almost abstract without losing its identity, constitutes one of the central axes in the artist's production, especially in her mature works. In them, Serra develops her own language in dialogue with the tradition of modern sculpture, with echoes of Henry Moore, but oriented towards a greater formal compactness and a more refined reading of the body. The present work is fully inscribed in this line, standing out for its compositional clarity and the solidity of its volumetric construction, qualities that are especially valued in her bronze production. Rosa Serra Puigvert is a Catalan sculptor with an extensive career whose work focuses on the reinterpretation of the human figure through a language of synthetic forms, rounded volumes and refined surfaces. Formed in the artistic environment of Olot, she began her career in the 1970s, when she began to develop her own style based on formal simplification and expressiveness of volume. Her projection is consolidated after winning the Sculpture Prize at the Bilbao Biennial (1976), giving rise to a career of international scope. Throughout his career he has received important institutional commissions, especially linked to the Olympic field, with interventions for the Olympic Games of Seoul 1988 and Barcelona 1992, as well as his collaboration with the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne. Her work is widely represented in the international public space, with sculptures installed in Europe, Asia and the United States, consolidating a continued presence outside the national sphere. In 2008 she was awarded the Sant Jordi Cross, one of the highest institutional recognitions in Catalonia.

ROSA SERRA PUIGVERT (Vic, Barcelona, 1944). Untitled. Bronze. Exemplary P/A. Signed and numbered.

    Est: €1,200 - €1,500

ROSA SERRA PUIGVERT (Vic, Barcelona, 1944). Untitled. Bronze. Exemplary P/A. Signed and numbered. Measurements: 18 x 16 x 13 cm. Of great personality and style, the sculptures of Rosa Serra are tremendously influenced by those of the master Henry Moore. Risky curves, roundness and harmony merge in dynamic and moving works, of tremendous plastic expressiveness, which define the characteristic identity of her production. Rosa Serra belongs to the generation that imposed a rupture within Olot sculpture. Her discovery of the three-dimensional figure led her to approach the work of Lluís Curós, her first master. She moved to Olot in 1952, where she currently lives and works. In 1970 she entered the Lluís Carbonell Academy, where she studied drawing and painting, and two years later she entered the Olot School of Fine Arts, where for three years she studied drawing, ceramics and engraving. He held his first individual exhibition in 1972, in Barcelona, and from 1973 he dedicated himself to sculpture. Shortly after, in 1976, he received the sculpture prize at the III Biennial of Bilbao. In the following decade, specifically in 1985, the International Olympic Committee commissioned him to create a series of sculptures for the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. Later, she also created sculptures with a sports theme for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and in 2000 the Nike company commissioned her to create a statue of Tiger Woods for the city of Oregon. She is also the author of the "Suite Olympique", located at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, and of several pieces of the same theme located in the Olympic Park in Seoul and in the Olympic Committee of Asia, in Kuwait. In 2008 he received the Sant Jordi Cross.

Rosa Serra b.1944 (Spanish) "100 Anys Informant, Diari De Girona" Commemorative Sculpture Plaster cast with painted surface on marble base Signed lower right side 32 x 11.1 x 10cm Note: Possibly a commemorative piece to celebrate the 100 years of the Rahola family ownership of the local daily newspaper - 'Diari De Girona'. While the Rahola family were the original owners of the paper when it first began in 1898 under the name L'Autonomista, ownership was taken from them and it was used as the official press of the Franco regime. In 1985 the paper was retrieved by the family and it resumed operations as an independent publication.
