Tomasz Setowski, Polish, born 1961, oil painting on panel depicting a Surreal composition with a woman. Signed lower left. Framed. Additionally signed and inscribed, on the backside. Provenance: the painting was purchased from the previous owner who directly bought it from the artist. Tomasz Setowski is known for Painting, sculpture. Tomasz Setowski was born in 1961 in Czestochowa. He studied art at the Higher Pedagogical School in Czestochowa, but he himself claims that the studies gave him only theoretical preparation and he is a self taught painter. In 1991 he became a member of the Association of Polish Artists and Designers. After his individual debut in Poland, his works were included in the traveling exhibition Polish surrealists presented in Poland in 1995 to 1997. In 1998, the New York gallery Stricoff Fine Art Ltd. took up his work. The artist represents the so called magic realism. He usually builds his compositions in zones, placing characters in fantastic, colorful costumes. He cooperates with galleries in Poland and abroad, taking part in numerous exhibitions. He creates in the technique of oil and acrylic and creates graphics using the technique of etching and soft varnish. The artist also developed his own gouache technique. He is also the author of many sculptures. His works reflect an extremely rich imagination that creates a world of opposing emotions and associations.
