This exceptional map is called "Recens edita totius Novi Belgii in America Septentrionali". It was originally published by Matthaus Seutter circa 1730 in Augsburg. This map depicts modern-day New England and is based off Jannson's map of 1651. It includes a vignette of New York, during the brief period of Dutch control. This is the second state of the map and includes a misspelling of the city of Boston as ‘Briston’. Georg Matthäus Seutter (1678-1757) was one of the most important German mapmakers of the eighteenth century. Born in Augsburg in 1678, he became an apprentice to the renowned cartographer Johann Baptiste Homann in Nuremberg. In 1707 he established himself as a map publisher in Augsburg, and quickly became Homann's main rival. His business flourished and by 1731 he was appointed Geographer to the Imperial Court.

The atlas was published in Augsburg circa 1732 to 1741. Georg Matthäus Seutter (1678-1757) was one of the most important German mapmakers of the eighteenth century. Born in Augsburg in 1678, he became an apprentice to the renowned cartographer Johann Baptiste Homann in Nuremberg. In 1707 he established himself as a map publisher in Augsburg, and quickly became Homann's main rival. His business flourished and by 1731 he was appointed Geographer to the Imperial Court. Mortier's Frontispiece This magnificent originally hand-colored engraving is from Pierre Mortier's Atlas Nouveau or Atlas Novum ad usum serenissimi. The work was published in Amsterdam for Mortier in 1696. The atlas was produced at the height of the Golden Age of Dutch Cartography. The work was dedicated to Louis de France (1682-1712), Duke of Burgundy, the son of Louis de France (known as the Grand Dauphin) as well as Marie-Anne of Bavaria. He became the Dauphin of France upon his father’s death and the father of King Louis XV of France. Pieter Mortier (1669-1711) was an Dutch mapmaker, engraver, and bookseller. He was the son of a French refugee. He was granted a privilege to publish French maps in the Netherlands in 1690, and printed his first work there in 1693. Mortier's family continued to publish and sell books in the Dutch Republic for three generations.

Carta con l'indice delle carte parzialmente oscurata da un foglio incollato. Pallida gora alla carta che riporta l'elenco delle mappe, quest'ultima è posta dopo quella dell'indice, altri trascurabili segni del tempo. Mappe in fresca impressione stampate su carta forte. Mezza pelle leggermente posteriore con piatti marmorizzati e titoli in oro al dorso, copia conservata entro custodia in pelle di fine '700 un po' sciupata con all'interno della custodia un'annotazione: "Libro acquistato il 16 febbraio 1794". Seutterum...", umfasst das Gebiet der Ämter Colditz, Leisnig und Rochlitz, Darstellung des Gebiets zwischen Oschatz im Norden, Leuben im Osten, Chemnitz im Süden und Borna im Westen, links und rechts der Karte Register zu den dargestellten Orten, grenzkolorierter Kupferstich, Mitte 18. Jh., mittig übliche Faltlinie und diese gebräunt, etwas fleckig, Kartenmaße ohne Text ca. 49,5 x 45 cm, Blattmaße ca. 50,5 x 60 cm. Künstlerinfo: auch Saiter, Seiter, Seuter, Seyder, dt.
