Condition B: tears, tape-repaired tears, creases, abrasions and staining at edges; loss in lower right corner; tape staining along tear at right image; small pin holes in corners. Paper. Born in Massachusetts, Shepler graduated from Williams College and taught painting in and around Boston. He was a Navy combat artist during World War II, from 1942 to 1946. Shepler was an avid sailor and skier; he is well-known for his watercolor ski scenes of New Hampshire. Art of Skiing p. 104-5.

Sun Valley was created as a destination resort to encourage people to ride the railroad out west. It was the brainchild of Averill Harriman, Chairman of the Board of Union Pacific Railroad, who was himself an avid skier. Born in Massachusetts, Shepler graduated from Williams College and taught painting in and around Boston. He was a Navy combat artist during World War II, from 1942 to 1946. Condition B+: reinforcement stickers on punch holes in top margin; repaired tear through upper right corner; tape on verso. Paper. Sun Valley was created as a destination resort to encourage people to ride the railroad out west. It was the brainchild of Averill Harriman, Chairman of the Board of Union Pacific Railroad, who was himself an avid skier. The Ketchum Idaho area was scouted out by Count Felix Schaffgotsch who reported back to Harriman that "it contains more delightful features for a winter sports center than any other place I have seen in the United States, Switzerland or Austria." Rare.

Announcing a performance of "Snow White," this poster differs from others in the Dartmouth series in that it doesn't depict a skier. The artist, Dwight Shepler, was becoming famous in his own right, primarily as a designer of posters advertising travel to Sun Valley, Idaho. "Until 1942, the poster contest was open to design schools . . . as well as to Dartmouth students" (Dartmouth p. 33). Dartmouth p. 36.

Sun Valley was created as a destination resort to encourage people to ride the railroad out West. It was the brainchild of Averill Harriman, Chairman of the Board of Union Pacific Railroad, who was himself an avid skier. The Ketchum, Idaho area was scouted out by Count Felix Schaffgotsch who reported back to Harriman that "it contains more delightful features for a winter sports center than any other place I have seen in the United States, Switzerland or Austria."

Announcing a performance of "Snow White," this poster differs from others in the Dartmouth series in that it doesn't depict a skier. The artist, Dwight Shepler, was becoming famous in his own right, primarily as a designer of posters advertising travel to Sun Valley, Idaho. "Until 1942, the poster contest was open to design schools . . . as well as to Dartmouth students" (Dartmouth p. 33). Dartmouth p. 36.
