    Qualifies for in-house shipping---Robert E. Sherwood (1896-1955) Amercan playwright and screenwriter, typed signed letter dated September 30, 1953, from Sherwood to Dr. Joseph T. Shipley, Director of the National Committee on Education in the Public Arts, the letter discusses a date for Sherwood and Shipley to meet at the Playwrights' Company office at 630 Fifth Avenue and also references the death of Barrett Clark, an influential editor, translator, and critic; 11" x 8 1/2"; light stain spot at left side of letter Sherwood was one of the original members of the Algonquin Round Table. In 1920, he became the editor of LIFE. He served as a speechwriter for President FDR and served as director of the Overseas Branch of the Office of War Information from 1943 until the end of WWII. He received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1936, 1939, and 1941, an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1947, and a Pulitzer Prize for Biography in 1949. (Inv. 25)

The Road to Rome, contemporary ink ownership inscription on front pastedown, small chip at upper panel, not affecting text, spine a little toned, New York, 1927; Waterloo Bridge, chipping to dust-jacket, affecting text at spine head, light water-staining to spine, upper joint splitting, New York, 1930; This is New York, New York, 1931, first editions, original boards, spine ends slightly bumped, top edges slightly spotted and darkened, dust-jackets, slight chipping and rubbing to extremities, spines lightly toned; and others by the same, many with programmes, 8vo (7) ⁂ Robert E. Sherwood (1896-1955), American playwright and screenwriter. He was one of the original members of the Algonquin Round Table. He was close friends with Dorothy Park and Robert Benchley, who were on the staff of Vanity Fair with Sherwood with the Round Table began meeting in 1919. Provenance: From the theatrical library of Clive Hirschhorn, theatre critic at the Sunday Express from 1966 to 1995. Many of the inscribed books contain personal inscriptions to Clive and almost all contain his characteristic pencil inscription with his date of acquisition to the upper corner of the front pastedowns.
