The reclining figure is understood as the counterpart to the stele in the artist's work, to which he has devoted himself in various materials and compositions. An early bronze by the artist, in which he realizes a multitude of demands on a sculpture, which he describes as follows: 'There is the expression of free and upright standing, the firm inner axis around which the cubes build themselves into a structure..and the activity of the individual components. A rising and falling of the forms, a stretching and tensioning of the surfaces, all of which together evoke a sound of their own.'
