Gordon Appelbe Smith, artist and geometric abstract Expressionist painter, was born in 1919 and is also known for his sculptures, mosaics, and stained glass images. In 1944, Smith had his first major solo show at the Vancouver Art Gallery. As a young artist, Gordon Appelbe Smith attended the California School of Fine Art, San Francisco, where he was heavily influenced by other local artists.
