During his 70-year collection career,he learned from the painter himself and museum professionals，and has a very high ability to appreciate and collect oil paintings,Over the years he built up an impressive collection of the modern visual arts. This collection has never been made accessible to public. On his 95'th birthday he decided to dispose of his Asian art collection which will be sold by Singapore International Auction in a number of sales this year. Soedarsono played a role in anti-Dutch propaganda efforts after World War II. imprisonment by the Dutch in 1948. However, he later became an art lecturer, held government positions, and even had his artworks included in the collection of President Sukarno.Tragically he became a victim of the purges following the failed 1966 communist coup. This unfortunate event elevated the value of his artworks among collectors, not only because of their artistic merit but also due to their historical significance and the tragic fate of the artist himself.

A portrait of the mother of the artist: 'Iboekoe' signed and dated 'Troeboes. S. / '46 Djokja' (lower right) and titled 'Iboekoe' (lower left) oil on board, 50,5x36 cm This portrait of the mother of Trubus Soedarsono shows a sensitive and sorrowful expression. It is painted in 1946, just after the Japanese capitulation. On August 17, 1945 Indonesia's first president, Soekarno declared Indonesia independent. This was only recognized by the Dutch in 1949 after fierce struggles, especially during the 'politionele acties' of 1947 and 1949. 'Iboekoe', meaning 'my mother' wears the symbol of the nationalist movement and of the Republic of Indonesia, a small pin of the Indonesian flag, also known as 'Sang Saka Merah Putih'. President Soekarno acquired several paintings of the artist for his own collection. During the Japanese occupation Trubus studied painting with Sudjojono and Affandi. After the Japanese surrender he became a member of a group of young revolutionary artists called SIM (Seniman Indonesia Muda), founded by Sudjojono and Trisno Sumardjo. This group was supported by the republican government that fought for independence. The artists visualised the efforts made by the people of Indonesia in their struggle for independence. Trubus was imprisoned by the Dutch authorities for exposing his anti-Dutch propagandist art. During the anti-communist troubles in 1966 many Indonesians disappeared without any form of justice. Since Trubus was a leftish member of the regional government of Yogyakarta he shared the same fate as possibly hundreds of thousands of Indonesians who disappeared and were killed because they were or were suspected of being communists.

A Balinese Legong dancer signed, dated and annotated 'Trubus S. 5/11 '61 Djakarta' (lower right) oil on canvas mounted on board, 140x78 cm The Javanese painter Trubus Sudarsono is known for his paintings of Balinese dancers. These paintings were made during the 1950’s and 60’s. The present lot shows a Balinese dancer with a bluish background and swirling incense smoke performing her magic dance in a trance-like state. Her movements and beauty are electrifying. The colours of the fabrics she’s wearing bring to life the essence of reality and mystery of Bali. Reality combined with mystery and spiritual values characterise the art of Trubus. The artist was recognised as an established painter. President Soekarno acquired several paintings of the artist for his own collection. During the Japanese occupation Trubus studied painting with Sudjojono and Affandi. Référence: Trubus Soedarsono (né à Yogyakarta (Indes néerlandaises), le 23 avril 1926 - décédé en septembre 1966) est un sculpteur et peintre naturaliste indonésien connu pour son réalisme puissant. Dans le domaine politique, Trubus a été membre du Parti communiste indonésien (PKI). Issu d’une famille d’ouvriers agricoles, il n'a pas terminé l'école primaire(SD), faute de moyens financiers. Dès sa troisième année d'école élémentaire, Trubus a dessiné et fabriqué ses propres marionnettes. Il est par la suite devenu marionnettiste lors des cérémonies de circoncision de ses amis. Trubus a également Trubus Soedarsono (né à Yogyakarta (Indes néerlandaises) (1926-1966) est un peintre et sculpteur naturaliste indonésien connu pour son réalisme puissant. Il est aussi connu pour avoir été un peintre résistant indonésien. Durant l’occupation japonaise (1942-1945), il fut l’élève de Sindoesoedarsono Sudjojono, fondateur et théoricien du Persagi, et Affandi, grand maître historique de l’art moderne indonésien. Membre du SIM (Seniman Indonesia Muda), un groupe de peintres qui fournissait notamment des images de propagande anti-hollandaise saisissantes, il fut emprisonné en 1948 pour ses activités politiques. Il deviendra par la suite professeur à l’Académie indonésienne des Beaux-Arts de 1950 à 1960. Ses œuvres figurent dans les collections du Président Sukarno. Il meurt en 1966 lors de la purge qui succéda à la tentative ratée du coup d’Etat communiste de septembre.
