Juli 2022, in Kopie. Das vorliegende Gemälde wird von Prof. Spinosa eindeutig Francesco Solimena zugeordnet. Innig umfängt Maria, im Zentrum des Bildes, das Jesuskind. Umringt wird das Paar von einigen Heiligen und Mägden wie auch dem kleinen Johannes dem Täufer rechts unten im Bild. Durch eine, rechts außerhalb des Bildes liegende Lichtquelle, wird sanftes Licht auf die Gruppe gelegt. Klare Schattenbildungen erhöhen die naturnahe Darstellung und Tiefenwirkung des Gemäldes. Insbesondere die Figurendarstellung mit klaren Licht- und Schattenschnitten und die Übernahme ähnlicher Vorbilder zeigen den Ursprung Solimenas, wie Spinosa in seiner Expertise ausführlich erleutert. Das Interesse Solimenas an zeitgenössischen Skulpturen, vor allem an Werken Lorenzo Vaccaros ist deutlich zu erkennen. Als Vorbild nennt Spinosa hier das Tondo in der Nationalgalerie, Palazzo Barberini in Rom. Die barocke Umsetzung der Szene zeigt eine sorgfältige und formal strengere Wiedergabe der Formen und eine tiefe, emotionale Nachempfindung. Neben Luca Giordano (1632/34-1705), von dem er sich stark beeinflussen ließ, gilt er als einer der führenden Vertreter der neapolitanischen Malerei seiner Zeit. Da Neapel etliche Jahre aufgrund des Spanischen Erbfolgekriegs an das österreichische Habsburg ging, erhielt Solimena auch zahlreiche Aufträge aus Wien (z. B. das Hochaltarbild der Kapelle im Schloss Belvedere) und beeinflusste so auch die österreichischen Barock-Maler wie Daniel Gran (um 1694-1757) oder Paul Troger (1698-1762). Literatur: Vgl.             (Canale di Serino, 1657 - Barra, 1747) Allegoria dell'America Olio su tela, cm 100X75,5 L'immagine era certamente partecipe di una serie, in analogia con le tele custodite presso la Galleria Doria Pamphilj a Roma. Secondo Ferdinando Bologna, le opere romane di cui solo l'Europa era autografa, erano i modelletti realizzati intorno al 1737 in previsione di compiere le redazioni finali destinate al Gabinetto del re nel Palazzo Reale di Napoli. La serie originale realizzata dal Solimena non è stata ancora rintracciata e Nicola Spinosa, analizzando gli aspetti di stile della serie Pamphilj, indica una datazione ai primi anni del terzo decennio. La versione in esame, però, non presenta la forma ovale, trovando confronto con una personificazione dell'Europa comparsa sul mercato londinese firmata da Corrado Giaquinto, che fu nella bottega solimenesca tra il 1719 e il 1723. Si deve altresì indicare che la tela qui presentata è pendant con quella esitata nell'asta Wannenes del 7 marzo 2019, lotto 611. Bibliografia di riferimento: N. Um 1680. -- -- Francesco Solimena lernt zunächst bei seinem Vater, dem neapolitanischen Maler Angelo Solimena, ab 1674 dann kurzzeitig bei Francesco di Maria. Dessen Akademismus ist er aber bald überdrüssig und so studiert er selbstständig die Gemälde der Neapolitaner Meister Luca Giordano, Mattia Preti und Giovanni Lanfranco. Außerdem arbeitet er in der zweiten Hälfte der 1670er Jahre weiterhin eng mit dem Vater zusammen, so unter anderem am Kuppelfresko Gloria del Paradiso in der Kathedrale San Prisco in Nocera Inferiore. Sein erster eigener wichtiger öffentlicher Auftrag war ein Deckenfresko in der Sankt-Annen-Kapelle der Kirche Gesù Nuovo in Neapel, das er 1677 ausführte, welches heute leider nur noch fragmentarisch erhalten ist. Zu seinem Frühwerk gehört auch die ca. 1680-81 entstandene Thronende Madonna mit Kind und den Hl. Dominikus und Katharina von Siena, die sich heute in der Gemäldegalerie Berlin findet (Inv.Nr. 71.1) In dieser Rosenkranzmadonna ist deutlich der Einfluss Luca Giordanos erkennbar. Nicola Spinosa, der die Zuschreibung unseres Gemäldes an Francesco Solimena anhand professioneller Fotos gegenüber dem Vorbesitzer mündlich bestätigt hat, datiert unser Gemälde in diese frühe Reifezeit des Malers um 1680, da es sich stilistisch ebenfalls an Giordano und dessen leuchtenden, warmen Farben, der lichterfüllten Komposition sowie dem malerischen, weichen und schwungvollen Pinselstrich orientiert. Ab den 1690er Jahren tritt in Solimenas Stil das Disegno deutlicher hervor, er bedient sich klarerer Konturen und einer deutlicher definierteren Körperlichkeit und huldigt damit einem anderen, eleganten klassischen Ideal. Der Darstellung seines Namenspatron widmet sich Solimena im Weiteren noch öfter. So befand sich z.B. eine um 1695 datierte, vergleichbare Komposition ehemals im Monastero di San Giuseppe, Assisi (vgl. Nicola Spinosa: Francesco Solimena (1657-1747) e la Arti a Napoli, Rom 2018, S. 308, Nr. 117). Seine um 1703/05 entstandene Vision des heiligen Franziskus findet man heute in der Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden (Inv.Nr. Gli furono commissionate intorno al 1675 e completate verso il 1680-82; rappresentano uno dei primi suoi cicli pittorici importanti. Degli affreschi si conoscono una serie di bozzetti su cui si è esercitata negli ultimi anni la critica del settore, con attribuzioni variamente divise fra Solimena e la sua bottega (cfr. Measurements: 49 x 61,5 cm. This work is a sketch of the painting that is currently in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts of Houston, painted by Francesco Solimena, between 1712-1714. It depicts the theme of The Royal Hunt of Dido and Aeneas and was painted for Count Raimondo Buonaccorsi, a provincial nobleman from the city of Macerata on the east coast of Italy. The Buonaccorsi Palace. The work depicts Aeneas and Dido, Queen of Carthage, when they are caught in a sudden storm while hunting. They are separated from the rest of their party, take refuge together in a cave and make love for the first time. The goddess Juno orders rain and hail, and the hunting party disperses. In the original work the composition is much larger, with more characters arranged in the upper area. In this particular case the author only shows Dido giving her hand to Aeneas and seeming to lead him towards the cave. From its formal characteristics we can relate this work to the hand of Francesco Solimena, an Italian painter of the late Baroque period, the main representative of the Neapolitan school of the first half of the 18th century. Francesco Solimena trained with his father, also a painter, and developed his career in Naples, where he settled in 1674. There he furthered his training with De Maria, in whose studio he became familiar with the more advanced Baroque style of Cortona, Lanfranco, Preti and Giordano. His early works reveal a clear affinity with the Roman Baroque as well as with the more recent Neapolitan pictorial tradition. Later, seeking to develop an alternative to Giordano's fanciful language, Solimena approached the more tenebrous art of Mattia Preti, insisting on greater plasticity. Thus the shading that characterises his figures began to appear in his work. He soon became the visible head of the Neapolitan school and was later influenced by the classicism of Maratta, which led him to seek a greater intensity in his drawing with academic accents. Works by Solimena are now in the Museo del Prado, the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg, the J. Paul Getty in Los Angeles, the Kunsthistorisches in Vienna, the Louvre in Paris, the Metropolitan in New York, the National Gallery in London and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, among other public and private collections throughout the world.

            Francesco Solimena detto l'Abate Ciccio (Canale di Serino - Barra 1747) cerchia di Assunzione della Vergine Olio su tela 60 x 46 cm Il consenso rivolto dai contemporanei all'opera di Francesco Solimena fu ampio, come lo fu il seguito di artisti che operarono nella sua bottega o che agirono nell'ambito della sua cerchia. Nell'ampio insieme di artisti convenzionalmente inseriti nel "solimenismo" ricordiamo l'architetto, scenografo e pittore Ferdinando Santifelice; Andrea d'Aste attivo con merito nelle chiese di Sant'Agostino degli Scalzi e Giovanni Battista delle Monache a Napoli; Salvatore Pace stretto collaboratore del maestro; Onofrio Avellino, che dopo un trascorso presso Luca Giordano approdò nella bottega del Solimena, realizzò delle opere per la chiesa di Rosariello delle Pigne prima di dirigersi a Roma; Paolo de Falco che seppe dare una interpretazione personale e di qualità della lezione del maestro, soprattutto nelle resa cromatica; Paolo di Majo ebbe ampio riscontro e fu tra i diffusori nel territorio campano del verbo del Solimena; importante personalità artistica fu Nicola Maria Rossi, uno dei migliori allievi del maestro, tanto da aver commissioni fuori i confini campani e nazionali, come testimoniano le tele della residenza degli Harrach presso Vienna, ora perdute; fu attivo in Campania e Calabria fu Giuseppe Tommajoli, ingiustamente dimenticato; Alfonso di Spigna, operoso nella sua Ischia; Domenico Mondo, che frequentò la bottega negli ultimi anni di vita del Solimena. Di altra caratura e rilevanza furono i tre più importanti allievi del maestro partenopeo, i quali svilupparono una sensibilità artistica tale da permetter loro di compiere un percorso caratterizzato da un'espressione peculiare: parliamo di Sebastiano Conca, Francesco De Mura e Giuseppe Bonito.             (Canale di Serino, 1657 - Barra, 1747) San Gennaro Olio su tela, cm 46X36 Nel corso della sua carriera Francesco Solimena dipinse innumerevoli opere dedicate a San Gennaro. La motivazione era dettata dalla profonda devozione popolare, incrementatasi in modo particolare dopo l'eruzione del Vesuvio del 1631, quando la colata lavica fu arrestata dall'apparizione miracolosa del Santo. Questo evento suscitò la realizzazione dei grandi cicli affrescati nella Cappella del Tesoro e alla Certosa di San Martino, ma altresì, singole immagini destinate al culto domestico. La tela in esame appartiene a questo fortunato filone illustrativo e, ricondotta al catalogo del pittore da Ferdinando Bologna, è datata dallo studioso alla estrema maturità. Suggeriscono tale collocazione cronologica le stesure aperte e la regia tenebrosa ispirata da Mattia Preti, segni indicativi 'dell'efficacia e quasi visionaria apertura pittorica che caratterizza e da valore al dipinto, sulla linea dei bagliori estremi dell'arte del Solimena '(Bologna).
