Very good dark impression on thin laid paper with small margins. Fold in the middle not disturbing.

WALDLANDSCHAFT MIT JÄGERN Öl auf Kupfertafel. 28,5 x 36,5 cm. Beigegeben eine Expertise von Claude Vittet, Paris, 23. Februar 2008, in Kopie. Blick auf einen herbstlichen Wald, in dem Jäger, Treiber und Hunde einen Hirsch jagen. Zu sehen ist ein Fluss, über den im Hintergrund eine mehrbogige Brücke führt, und im Vordergrund links eine kleine schmale Brücke, auf der ein Mann vor seinem Pferd steht. Mit einem Gewehr schießt er gerade auf ein paar Enten, die sein ins Wasser springender Hund nach Erfolg herausholen soll. In der Mitte des Hintergrunds die ganz in grau-weiß gehaltene Landschaft unter hohem, ebenso farbigem Himmel. Vergleichbare Waldlandschaften lassen sich mehrfach im Werk des Künstlers finden. Pieter Stevens d. J. war ein flämischer Maler und Zeichner, der für seine Landschaften bekannt war. Er verließ Flandern, um am Hof Kaiser Rudolfs II in Prag zu arbeiten, im April 1594 wird er als Hofmaler in Prag erwähnt. Nach Rudolfs Tod im Jahr 1612 trat Stevens wahrscheinlich in den Dienst von Karl I, Fürst von Liechtenstein. A series of twelve prints showing the months of the year with their related activities. At the top sign of the zodiac. Each one with the name of the month and two lines of text in three columns. Signed Petrus Stephani inventor on most prints in one of the bottom corners. Complete series of the months but without the title engraving who is usually lacking. The publishers address of Marco Sadeler in text lines. The set offers a quantity on details about daily life around 1600. Print series like this fitted in with the urge to catalog themes like seasons, months, elements, planets ... during humanism.
