Er studierte in Neapel und Paris Bildhauerei sowie Malerei bei Ernest Carrière. Seine figurativen Art Nouveau-Gefäße brachten ihm große Bekanntheit. 1900 erhielt er eine Goldmedaille auf der Pariser Weltausstellung, 1902 nahm er an der 1. A bronze relief cast "bat" vase of baluster form with long neck, cast in relief with three bats with a stylized townscape and gilt stars, signed "HS Lerche Paris 1892". Size: 7 7/8" tall. Condition: very good. Another example of Stoltenberg "Bat" vase, also dated 1892, was sold at Sotheby's London 16 November 2006, lot 122, for £2280.

This plate was gifted by Hans Stolberg Lerche to his pupil Herta Von Wedekind who married Arturo B. Ottolenghi, creator of one of the most fertile cenaculums of 20th century Italian art, in 1923.

(1867 Düsseldorf - 1920 Rom) Figürliche Jugendstil-Ziervase mit der Tänzerin Loie Fuller Bronze, vergoldet. Sign.; Gießerstempel von Louchet, Paris. Reliefplastisch gestaltete Bechervase mit der stilisierten Darstellung der amerikanischen Tänzerin Loie Fuller bei ihrem legendären "Serpentinentanz", mit dem sie ab 1892 u.a. in Paris Furore machte. Stoltenberg Lerche gewann 1900 die Goldmedaille auf der Pariser Weltausstellung. H. 14,7 cm. French figural Art Nouveau gilt bronze vase in the shape of the famous female dancer Loie Fuller performing her serpentine dance. Signed. Louchet foundry mark.
