Exceptional Raymond Subes Patinated Wrought Iron and Marble Center Table, 20th Century The table is base stamped 'R.S'. and therefore attributed to Raymond Subes.  Subes worked with several architects and quickly became one of the best metalwork designers and makers. In the 1920s, he worked a lot with wrought iron, making things like the cathedral's pulpit in Rouen, the grilles of the choir entry at the church of Saint-Germain-des-Pres, and the telescoping lights on the Carousel bridge in Paris. He also made a lot of ironwork for the Oceanliners 1931 Atlantique, 1926 Ile-de-France, Pasteur, and 1935 Normandie. He also made ironwork for the Banque de France and National City Bank, both on the avenue des Champs-Elysées, and for the Institut Pasteur, Caisse des Dépots et Consignations, Musée de la France d'Outre. He mostly used patinated, chromed, or gilded wrought iron, polished steel, bronze, and repoussé copper in his work. He used alabaster, Levantine marble, frosted glass, and embroidered silk shades, which Mme. Luhuché-Meéry made for him in the early 1920s. In the 1930s, he made furniture out of chrome-plated tubular metal for Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann and architect Alfred Porteneuve. In 1931, he made a grille for the Permanent Colonial Museum. *{However, an almost identical table was previously offered by Robert Zehil gallery in monaco and was there attributed to Edgar Brandt: For reference, that table was described as "AN "ANTIQUE" CONSOLE, CIRCA 1925 Patinated wrought iron, steel and marble, 92 cm. high, 150 cm. wide and 45 cm. deep Exhibition: Tamara De Lempicka, Reina del Art Deco, Palacio de Gaviria, Madrid, 5 October 2018-24 February 2019 Bibliography Edgar Brandt catalogue, circa 1926. Est: €1,000 - €1,200

RAYMOND SUBES (Paris, 1891-Étampes, 1970), attributed. Set of four garden chairs, 1950s-60s. Wrought iron polychrome white. Use marks. Needs restoration. Measurements: 87 x 42 x 47 cm. These garden chairs have been attributed to Raymond Subes, as it is a design that coincides with several of his models, given his unique use of wrought iron. Thin iron tubes trace patterns in the air to subtly describe the scrolled arms and the interlacing of the openwork backrest. Raymond Subes was a French artist and decorator, born in Paris. He is one of the most famous French blacksmiths of the Art Deco period. He attended the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs and the Ecole Boulle in Paris and was a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. Subes collaborated with the greatest decorators of his time, such as Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann. Throughout his career, until 1970, he worked with Émile Robert, in whose company he was artistic director and later general manager. He designed stair railings and balustrades for ships such as the Lafayette. He also designed the lampposts for the Carrousel Bridge and the ironwork for the Palais de Tokyo, the headquarters of insurance companies, large hotels and restaurants in Paris, airports, department stores, historical monuments and national palaces.

RAYMOND SUBES (Paris, 1891-Étampes, 1970), attributed. Garden table, 1950s-60s. Polychrome wrought iron. Mosaic top with marble tesserae. Marks of use. Needs restoration. Measurements: 72 x 101 x 101 cm. This garden table is attributed to Raymond Subes, as it coincides with several of his models, given his singular use of wrought iron. In this case, the thin iron tubes trace attractive and whimsical patterns in the air. They are rooted at the level of the circular crosspieces and end in scrolls at floor level. The mosaic on the top is made up of irregular tesserae of different shades and mottled tesserae. Raymond Subes was a French artist and decorator, born in Paris.
