Biography

Born in South Dakota in 1937, artist Ray Swanson became a celebrated painter of Navajo tribes after quitting his job as an engineer and teaching himself to paint. Ray Swanson's paintings depict the Navajo people dressed in traditional attire. Living near the Navajo reservation in Arizona, he drove there to get inspiration for his oil and watercolor paintings.

Artist Ray Swanson is the recipient of multiple awards, medals, and accolades, including the Cowboy Artists of America Show gold and silver medals and the Catlin Peace Pipe Award.
