Osamu Tezuka was a great Japanese cartoonist and Doctor of Medicine. Osamu started his career as a comic artist in 1946 with 'Machan no Nikkicho' ('Machan's Diary') for the children's magazine Mainichi Shogakusei Shinbun while he was a student at Osaka University. His first best-selling comic, 'Shin Takarajima' (New Treasure Island) appeared in 1947, followed three years later by 'Jungle Taitei', which was published in Manga-Shonen.

    Osamu TEZUKA Astro Boy Robot Land Encre de Chine, encres de couleur et gouache pour deux strips d’une planche de cette histoire (dans la version originale, ロボットランド, Robotto rando) publiée de mai à septembre 1962 dans le magazine Shônen. Annoté « p. 43 » dans la marge. Phylactères en japonais collés. Le principal méchant, Saturne (personnage colossal vêtu d’un costume orné de deux étoiles, d’une cape, d’un petit chapeau à plume et armé d’un trident) figure d’ailleurs en couverture du numéro de juin 1962 de ce mensuel. Le professeur Ochanomizu et Astro Boy rendent visite au docteur Haido qui construit un parc d’attraction sur une petite île : il a décidé d’utiliser des robots pour recréer des contes de fées et des légendes du monde entier. Mais l’endroit dissimule une usine secrète. Cette histoire sera adaptée en dessin animé (noir et blanc) pour la télévision en 1963. Astro Boy, known in Japan as Mighty Atom is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka. The story follows Astro Boy, a young android with human emotions who is created by Umataro Tenma after the recent death of his son Tobio. Eventually, Astro is sold to a robot circus run by Hamegg, but is saved from his servitude by Professor Ochanomizu. Astro becomes a surrogate son to Ochanomizu, who creates a robotic family for Astro and helps him lead a normal life as an ordinary human child, while accompanying him on his adventures.     OSAMU TEZUKA (Toyonaka, 1928-Tokyo, 1989. Two celluloids of "Jetter Mars". Acetate and drawings. Measurements: 23 x 26,5 cm. Original celluloids of the TV series Jetter Mars created by Osamu Tezuka, with original drawings of the producer used to create these acetate. Jetter Mars is based on the animated series Astroboy (Atom) and was broadcast for a few months in 1977. The short duration of its broadcast was due to Tezuka's problems with the production company. These celluloids are very rare to obtain and highly collectible. Osamu Tezuka, considered "the god of Manga", was a Japanese mangaka (Japanese word for the creator of a comic book) and animator. Thanks to his work as an illustrator, Tezuka expanded and massively spread the reading and consumption of manga as a means of popular entertainment, achieving that mangas came to have a profound influence on post-war Japanese society. He influenced the way of making comics of the great majority of later authors and his works have been translated into many languages, including Spanish. His way of making comics was based on the cinematographic techniques of Walt Disney, introducing the story manga, or manga of long duration, with a much more elaborate and complex plot than the comics created so far by other artists. Among his most famous works are Jungle Taitei ("Kimba, the White Lion"), Tetsuwan Atom ("Astroboy") and Ribbon No Kishi ("The Knight Princess"), considered the first shojo manga in history. The success continued in the following decades, with series such as Hi no Tori ("Phoenix", 1954), Black Jack (1973-84), Buddha (1972-83) and Adolf (1983), taking a deep turn with the culmination of the MW series (1976-1978), in which he addressed very unusual themes in the manga of the time, such as homosexuality, political corruption or chemical weapons. In 1977 he created Jetter Mars (Jet Mars).
