Property from a Private Collection, Savannah, GA Description: William Timym (Austria/England, 1903-1990), Cheetahs, Bronze Resin, signed and numbered 76/100 on base of sculpture, depicting two running cheetahs on a rectangular black slate base. William Timym was an Austrian-born British artist, animator, illustrator, and sculptor known for his versatile contributions to comics, animation, and realistic wildlife art. He grew up in Vienna and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. He moved to England in 1938, during the Nazi occupation of Austria. He is best known for the Bleep and Booster cartoons for the BBC's Blue Peter. In sculpture, he specialized in lifelike bronze wildlife , such as a statue of Blue Peter's dog Petra, a lion bust at Gloucester's Nature in Art museum, a life-size Sumatran rhinoceros at Howletts Wild Animal Park, and an elephant fountain at Saint Louis Zoo. Measurements: Height: of sculpture 6 1/2 in. x Width: 21 1/2 in. x Depth: 5 in. Condition: Good condition, light wear to base. Dimensions overall: 8 in. x 21 1/4 in. x 7 in. WILLIAM TIMYM, MBE (1902-1990) MAQUETTE FOR GUY THE GORILLA (1947-1978) 1982 plaster, signed with monogram, 38cm h, including plaster plinth Timym's bronze sculpture of Guy the Gorilla at Barclay Court, London Zoo was unveiled on 10 November 1982. One of the Zoo's most famous inhabitants, Guy, was named after Guy Fawkes because he arrived at London Zoo on 5 November 1947. Long associated with London Zoo, Timym was born in Vienna and MOVED TO England in 1938. Mainly a sculptor of animals, he also executed many portraits of distinguished sitters of the mid century as well as illustrating the long running television cartoon series 'Bongo the Boxer' and 'Bleep and Booster'.
