    HÜGELIGE LANDSCHAFT MIT REISENDEN Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 148 x 200 cm. In breitem vergoldetem Kehlrahmen. Hügelige Landschaft mit üppiger Vegetation und repoussoirhaft rechts stehendem gebrochenem Baum. Im Mittelgrund ein Bachlauf mit Figuren. Nach einigen Quellen wurde Bartolomeo Torreggiani in Neapel geboren, zog aber schon früh nach Rom, wo er Schüler und Anhänger von Salvator Rosa wurde, von dem er die Vision einer „wilden“ Natur voller Pathos übernahm. Auf Grund der Ähnlichkeit seines Stils mit der poetischen Darstellungsweise des Meisters bekam er schon bald den Spitznamen „Bartolomeo del Rosa“. Torreggiani war ein herausragender Landschaftsmaler; hier gelang es ihm am besten, sein enormes Talent bei der Farbgebung unter Beweis zu stellen und Stimmungen, sowie Lichteffekte meisterhaft in die Gemäldestruktur einzubringen. Auch wenn heute nur wenige Werke bekannt sind, waren seine Gemälde bei der römischen Aristokratie des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts sehr beliebt, wie man verschiedenen Inventarlisten von Sammlungen bedeutender Familien, wie den Colonna, Pamphili, Torlonia oder Pallavicini entnehmen kann. (14410521) (13)

    Ben poco è giunto fino a noi della biografia e delle opere del Torreggiani, che le fonti vogliono allievo di Salvator Rosa, grazie al quale assume l’appellativo “del Rosa”. Lo conosciamo oggi come pittore forse originario di Napoli e dedito alla pittura di paesaggio; ma le opere giunte fino a noi non sono sufficienti a delineare un corpus completo della sua produzione. Pertanto è piuttosto difficile datare questo piccolo, ma affascinante dipinto: in un paesaggio fluviale, alcuni personaggi appena abbozzati sono immersi in una natura piuttosto selvaggia, resa da pennellate veloci, affatto attente al realismo della raffigurazione e al dettaglio. Il cromatismo è intenso, ma non scuro, quasi a dimostrare uno stato d’inquietudine dell’artista nel momento della realizzazione dell’opera.

    Little has come down to us of the biography and works of Torreggiani, who is said to be a pupil of Salvator Rosa, thanks to whom he is known as 'del Rosa'. We know him today as a painter who may have been born in Naples and dedicated to landscape painting, but the works that have come down to us are insufficient to outline a complete corpus of his production. It is, therefore, rather difficult to date this small but fascinating painting: in a river landscape, a few barely sketched characters are immersed in relatively wild nature, rendered with quick brushstrokes that are not at all attentive to the realism of the depiction and detail. The colour is intense, but not dark, almost as if to demonstrate a state of unease of the artist at the moment of creation.
