He held many positions at the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, including member of the Executive Council, 1846-1896, Corresponding Secretary, 1846-1848, Vice-President, 1876-1890 and Recording Secretary. Descended in the family to the present owner.

Oval: height 2 1/2 inches (6.9 cm). This miniature is typical of Trott's painting style during his years in Philadelphia prior to 1800. There is an almost identical sitter in the Manney Collection (cf. American Portrait Miniatures in the Manney Collection Catalogue, Johnson, 1990, p. 217, fig. 242) which is said to be one of Trott's earliest known works. C.
