        Signed on right corner, in graphite, RAKUSAN, 1961,2,2. Subject depicts a group of quails amongst tall pink toned grass. Framed in gold metal leafed wooden frame with tan toned mat board under plexiglass. Approximately 21 x 26 inches window measures 14.5 x 19.5 inches. Evident wearing to gilt frame and minor wearing go paper. RAKUSAN signed block print. Block print, wood block art, wood block print, Japanese block print, Japanese art, Japanese art, wall art, quail art, bird art, bird decor, home decor, Asian arts, Asian decor, Orientalism,orientalia. 12 Art wall Rakusan (Rakuzan) Tsuchiya captured the natural world through lush compositions, rich color and sparkling embellishments. Trained as a painter, Rakusan gained renown as a woodblock print artist through his self-published kacho-e prints, or bird and flower pictures.Born in Hyogo prefecture, Rakusan worked in Kyoto. He also used the name Rakusan Koshisei. In 1913, he became the pupil of the influential painter Seiho Takeuchi. During 1920s through 1950s, Rakusan built a successful career as a print artist.

        Rakusan Tsuchiya (Japanese, 1896 - 1976), "Beach at Low Tide and Long-Billed Ringed Plovers," a.k.a. "Early Spring," woodblock print on paper, signed in print at far left, signed in pencil at bottom center, measures 14.50 x 20 inches to the matt opening, 21.75 x 26.75 inches framed. CONDITION: Good. For seven years (1913-1920) Rakusan was apprenticed to the great Kyoto artist Takeuchi Seihou, (1864-1942), usually called "Seiho." Rakusan artworks show many parallels to works by his master as well as to those of other contemporary Seiho students.

        Lot of three Japanese woodblock prints by Tsuchiya Rakusan (1896-1976). 1st item - Pair of framed Japanese color woodblock print, one depicting a bird perched in tree above blue morning glory flowers and the other depicting a bird perched on a multi-colored, flowering cabbage plant. Both signed & sealed right margin and pencil signed by artist bottom margin. Overall toning otherwise very good condition. Both pieces measure: Sight - 14 1/4" H x19 7/8" W. Framed - 21 1/4" H x 25 1/2" W. Circa 1930's. 2nd item - Framed Japanese color woodblock print, a bird perched on bamboo above blooming roses. Signed & sealed upper right margin and pencil signed by artist bottom margin. Japanese watermarks on paper. Overall excellent condition. Sight 17 1/2" H x 23 3/8" W. Framed - 20 7/8" H x 26 3/4" W. Circa 1930's.
