Feierabend der Fischer Öl auf Leinwand. Um 1922/23. 48,5 x 60 cm. Unten rechts mit Pinsel in Beige signiert "Unold". Provenienz: Kunsthaus Bühler / Privatsammlung Berlin Der Maler Max Unold ist einer der bedeutendsten Vertreter der Neuen Sachlichkeit in Deutschland. Er studierte von 1908 bis 1911 an der Münchener Akademie bei Hugo von Habermann und ging anschließend auf mehrere Studienreisen nach Frankreich, wo er sich intensiv mit den Werken Manets, Cézannes und van Goghs auseinandersetzte. Dadurch überwand er schnell den akademischen Traditionalismus und förderte als Gründungsmitglied der Neuen Secession die öffentliche Anerkennung der Münchener Avantgarde. Besonders in den frühen 20er Jahren machte sich ein stilistischer Wandel in seinen Bildern bemerkbar, denn Unold begann, im Gegensatz zu seiner erst spätexpressionistisch geprägten Formensprache, eine zunehmend versachlichte Dingwelt darzustellen. Dabei hatte die flache norddeutsche Landschaft eine prägende Auswirkung auf sein Oeuvre. An der Küste Norddeutschlands malte er stille, ruhige Landschaften und Menschen am Strand. Auch in unserem Werk wird der betont stilllebenartige Charakter seiner Darstellungen deutlich. Die für Unold typische Farbpalette aus grau-grünen bis hin zu rot-violetten Tönen repräsentiert zusammen mit der flächigen Perspektive seinen stilistischen Umbruch der 20er Jahre.
