    Antique original still life oil on canvas painting attributed to John Vanderlyn Jr. (1805-1876 New York) Depicts a still life with fruit with arch and drape background. Apparently unsigned. Work window measures 28 3/4" x 35 1/2" Frame measures 35 1/2" x 41 1/2". Good condition with mild darkening of surface and craquelure. Wear to frame. Will not ship. Will refer a local shipper.     John Vanderlyn, Jr. (New York, 1805-1876) oil on canvas three-quarter view portrait painting depicting James F. Wilkes (1835-1868) of Giles County, TN. Signed "Vanderlyn" en verso. Housed in the original carved gilt wood frame. Sight - 27 1/2" H x 21" W. Framed - 35" H x 29" W. Note: James F. Wilkes was born in 1835 in Giles County, Tennessee, the son Minor Winn Wilkes (b. 1785, Virginia) and Mary Brownlow Wilkes (b. 1805, North Carolina). He was married to Cynthia Pearlina Wilkes. Military records show that he was enlisted as a Private in the CSA as a part of the 3rd Regiment, Tennessee Infantry (Clack's).     John Vanderlyn, Jr. (American, 1805-1876) STILL LIFE WITH APPLES 1871 signed and dated u.r. on stretcher "John Vanderlyn Jr. pinxit 1871" oil on canvas This painting is signed and dated by the still-life and portrait painter John Vanderlyn, great-grandson of the renowned Pieter Vanderlyn (1687-1778) --formerly known as the "Ganzevoort Limner"-- it is an important document of the artist's work. This work will be included in the Catalogue Raisonne on the Vanderlyn Family of Artist-painters being compiled by Katherine C. Woltz. It was recently examined at a symposium at the Senate House in Kingston which is sponsoring the Catalogue Raisonne. 17 by 22 in.
