TABLEAU "UNTITLED" d'Alexander VESNIN (1883-1959) Huile sur toile encadrée, monogrammée en bas à droite "A.B." On y joint un certificat de Mr Jean Chauvelin en date du 15 décembre 2022. Provenance : Collection privée Dim : 54 x 72,5 cm env. Bon état Dès 1906, les frères Vesnin participent à plusieurs concours et obtiennent plusieurs récompenses avant même l'obtention de leur diplôme. En 1912, Alexandre obtient son diplôme d'ingénieur civil. Les premiers projets sont d'un néo-classique épuré et n'annoncent pas vraiment la période d'intense créativité qui en fera un des leaders du constructivisme russe à partir de 1920. Entre les deux périodes, Alexandre Vesnine délaisse un peu l'activité d'architecte pour se consacrer à la peinture, sous l'influence visible du cubisme. Vesnine admirait l'œuvre de Le Corbusier et le faisait savoir, il était élogieux envers son bâtiment Tsentrosoyuz, disant de lui notamment qu'il était "le meilleur bâtiment jamais construit à Moscou depuis un siècle".

Omarovich Kahn-Magomedov, Alexander Vesninn and Russian Constructivism, London: Lund Humphries, 1986, p.59 Vesnin's vision for Romeo and Juliet has been called 'baroque cubism' for its combination of geometricised forms and rich colour-scheme. The designs for this production are known to exist in preliminary and definitive versions. The inclusion of a curtain to the background of the offered lot suggests that it is probably from the latter series. For reasons unknown, Vesnin's designs were scrapped at the last minute and Alexandra Exter was commissioned to redesign the entire production.
