Original Porto Ramos Vintage Poster by Rene Vincent C1920

This iconic poster of the Ramos-Pinto Company illustrated by Rene Vincent advertises the famous port wine featuring two lovers in profile leaning into one another with only a famous glass of the irresistible Porto Ramos between their lips. An anxious cupid awaits below with bow in hand, using the delicious drink as his arrow. This image is still very much associated with the company to the present date. Rene Vincent (1879-1936) was a French illustrator who was prevalent in the 1920s-1930s. He worked in an Art Deco style and became famous for his poster designs. Vincent had a design style of distorting perspective and dynamism. He was influential in the Art Deco movement in the period between the two world wars. Vincent studied at the ecole des Beaux-Arts, at first he studied architecture, then changed to graphic arts and ceramics courses. He was also an illustrator for La Vie Parisienne, The Saturday Evening Post, L'Illustration and Fantiso, with most of his contributions to these magazines being fashion illustrations. He created many advertisements for Bugatti, Peugeot, Michelin, and Shell Oil Company. However, his most recognizable work is the circa 1920 Porto Ramos Pinto poster. Founded by Adriano Ramos Pinto in 1880, Casa Ramos Pinto became for noted its innovative marketing strategies. The company quickly became known for its continuous wine research and devotion to the packaging and promotion of the product. As a result of Ramos-Pinto's ingenuity, the company quickly became responsible for half of the wine exported into South America. In 1990, the Casa Ramos Pinto joined the Roederer Group, a French champagne house in business for over two centuries. This is an Original Vintage Poster. It is not a reproduction. This poster has a varnish finish, is linen-backed and conservation mounted and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all our posters.

In this ad, as in so many since, we can see the wealthy couple leading the children to the back seats in the new family sedan. The bright burst of golden leaves, matching the wife's coat, supplants an exhaust plume with clever placement. Together with the Racing Green of the car, it's a superb visual shorthand for "top-down fun from Spring to Fall." Strikingly, this French advertisement doesn't name the car; we suspect it's the 1928 Model A Convertible. And although this copy is missing the bottom half of text, the full-text variant would inform us to "See all Ford agents for the latest Ford creation: new line, elegance and indisputable chic, refined comfort, and mechanical improvements for all models." Vintage reproduction of an Art Deco advertising poster for Peugeot La18ch featuring design by the influential French Art Deco illustrator Rene Vincent (1879-1936) of an elegant lady getting in the car with a bellboy carrying boxes for her. Founded in 1810, Peugeot is a French brand of automobiles owned by Stellantis. Good condition, staining, browning, repaired tears, paper loss on bottom left corner, restored paper loss on right edge, backed on old linen, staining on line. Country of issue: France, designer: Rene Vincent, size (cm): 87x63, year of printing: 1970s.
