Die Putti mit bald verwelkenden Blumen aus einer umgestürzten Vase, einer Seifenblase und Musikinstrumenten und teilw. zerrissenen Saiten als Symbole schnell platzender und verklingender, flüchtiger Freuden; auf der rechten Seite eine Schatulle mit Schmuck, Gold- und Silbermünzen sowie eine goldene Krone mit Zepter als Zeichen der Vergänglichkeit von Reichtum und Macht, außerdem ein für die Eroberungslust und Kurzlebigkeit menschlicher Machtgefüge stehender Globus. Als weitere, eindeutige Symbole werden auf einem altarartigen Tisch eine Sanduhr und eine silberne Taschenuhr nebst einem Blatt mit lateinischem Schriftzug zur Eitelkeit "(Van)itas Vanitatem" dargestellt. Est: €10,000 - €15,000Die Kinder des Bacchus oderAllegorie – Wohlstand und Armut durch den Wein Öl auf Eichenholz. 24,8 x 37 cm. Verso alter französisch handbeschriebener Aufkleber mit Verweis auf eine Galerie in Antwerpen und einer Adresse (...6 Paris), wohl ehemaliger Besitzer. Ungerahmt. Der Bildtitel entstammt der Vorbesitzer-Tradition. Bei genauerer Betrachtung allerdings ist in der Darstellung ein enormer sozialkritischer Aspekt zu erkennen. Ein großes Weinfass bildet das Bildzentrum. Daran ein gut gekleideter Knabe, der seinen Krug füllt. Links daneben ein Mann mit nacktem Oberkörper, um seine Hüften ein Pantherfell, das ihn als Bacchus kennzeichnen soll. Mit seiner Linken hält er eine Weinschale hoch. Neben ihm ein weiterer Bacchant. Rechts daneben das lachende Gesicht eines Knaben mit Breischüssel. Am rechten Bildrand ein Jüngling, der mit seiner Hand auf das Fass weist und gleichzeitig demonstrativ nach rechts aus dem Bild hinausblickt. Die obere, nächtlich dunkle Bildszene zeigt – im Gegensatz zur gesättigten Gesellschaft unten – jedoch eine verarmte Familie, die in den Hintergrund zieht, dem Mann auf Krücken fehlt ein Bein, die Kinder halten sich am Rock der Frau fest. So gesehen, ist das Gemälde ein Dokument der sozialen Verhältnisse der Zeit. Bemerkenswert, wie die Bacchus- Gestalt über das Fass hinweg auf die Armen blickt, während die Kinder im Vordergrund mit Musschüsseln genährt sind. Für die Zuweisung des kleinen Gemäldes an Simon de Vos sprechen etliche Argumente. Bekanntlich hatte der Maler bereits mit 12 Jahren das Studium begonnen, war mit 17 schon Meister der Antwerpener Lukasgilde. Wir wissen, dass er zunächst mit kleinformatigen humoristischen Genrebildern auftrat, damals bereits beeinflusst von Rubens und Van Dyck, was auch in vorliegendem Bild erkennbar ist. Einiges von der Bildidee scheint zudem von Abraham Janssen angeregt zu sein, nicht zufällig aus dessen antik-mythologischen Themen entnommen, wie die Sitzfigur in Rückenansicht „Venus tadelt Jupiter“ oder „Herkules stößt Pan vom Lager der Omphale“. Auch dort finden wir zwei Kinder in der unteren Ecke. So wiederholt De Vos das Motiv zweier Kinder in einer Ecke auch später in seinem eigenen Gemälde „Taverne mit Wahrsagerin“ (ehemals Bonhams). Das Gemälde wäre also zweifellos in seine frühen Werke einzuordnen. Beachtenswert ist das Gesicht des Jünglings am rechten Rand. Haltung und Ausdruck zeigen ihn als Schlüsselfigur zur Bilddeutung. Dass es sich hier möglicherweise um ein Selbstbildnis des noch sehr jungen De Vos handelt, schließt unser Experte nicht aus, sei aber zur Diskussion gestellt. A.R. Dorotheum, Oktober 2013, Lot 783. (13403516) (11) Simon de Vos, 1603 Antwerp – 1676 ibid. BACCHUS’ CHILDREN or THE ALLEGORY OF PROSPERITY AND POVERTY THROUGH WINE Oil on softwood. 24.8 x 37 cm. On closer inspection this painting presents raises a socio-critical aspect. It is remarkable how the Bacchus figure looks across the wine barrel at the poor, while the children in the foreground are fed with bowls of mussels. Several arguments support an attribution of the small painting to Simon de Vos. Famously, the painter had begun his studies at the age of 12, and by the time he was 17 he was already a master of the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke. It is known that his first paintings were small-format, humorous genre paintings and were already influenced by Rubens and van Dyck, which is also obvious in the present painting. Some aspects of the image idea seem to have also been inspired by Abraham Janssen, not accidentally taken from his ancient mythological subjects, such as the seated rear-view figure from “Venus blames Jupiter” or “Hercules pushes Pan from Omphale’s bed”. It also depicts children in the lower corner. De Vos later repeated the motif of two children in a corner in his own painting titled “Tavern with a Fortune Teller” (formerly Bonhams). The painting therefore undoubtedly belongs to his early works. The young man’s face on the right edge is remarkable. His posture and expression show him as a key figure in the interpretation of the image. Our expert does not rule out the possibility that this is a self-portrait of the still very young de Vos, but it is open to discussion. Galleria dipinti antichi, Torino 1970, ad vocem Il dipinto, raffigurante Maria Maddalena, presenta un soggetto che si intreccia con l'allegoria della Vanitas e l'effimero significato della ricchezza terrena. Lo stile dell'opera suggerisce l'origine fiamminga dell'autore che viene riconosciuto in Simon de Vos. L'artista è registrato nella Gilda di Anversa nel 1620. Verosimilmente compie un viaggio di studio in Italia con Jan Cossier, infatti è documentata la sua presenza ad Aix en Provance nel 1626. A sostegno del soggiorno nella Penisola conforta l'assenza di documenti sino al 1628 e un gusto pittorico che denota la conoscenza del naturalismo romano. A questo proposito si possono citare il Triplice ritratto del Louvre, San Pietro in preghiera e la Maddalena penitente, custoditi all'Ermitage. Altrettanto evidenti sono le influenze rubensiane e la conoscenza dei caravaggisti francesi di stanza nella Città Eterna. Bibliografia di riferimento: R. Klessmann, Simon de Vos und Italien, in E. Est: €12,000 - €14,000Flemish painter and art collector Simon de Vos was trained by portrait painter Cornelis de Vos, with whom, however, he had no family connection. He initially devoted himself to small format cabinet paintings and genre scenes. The color palette is rich and the brush strokes delicate. His early period œuvre is close to Frans Francken the Younger and the German painter Johann Liss, who worked in Italy in the 1620s. There is also an obvious influence of the Caravaggists. Later de Vos began painting historical subjects, which he executed in larger formats in the Flemish Baroque style, influenced mainly by Rubens and Anthony van Dyck. The painting was probably made around 1640 in Antwerp. It depicts Mount Parnassus, the seat of the god Apollo and the nine Muses. Apollo and the Muses are playing musical instruments symbolizing the divine harmony of nature. Five small putti with floral wreaths are soaring over the whole scene.

Est: €11,000 - €15,000DIE VERMÄHLUNG MARIENS Öl auf Kupfer, auf Holz. 69 x 85 cm. Zwischen zwei Säulen mit rotem Velum. Dahinter eine jugendliche, dunkel gekleidete Gestalt mit Buch, der wohl als Schreiber zu verstehen ist. Rechts im Bild ein Frauen-, Männer- und Knabenpaar, die die Trauzeremonie mit unterschiedlicher Mimik verfolgen. Dies mag, wie in dieser Zeit in Holland möglich, als kritisch hinterfragende Geste zum familiären Hintergrund der Hauptfiguren zu verstehen sein. Farblich hat der Maler das Blau und Weiß des Mantels und Kleides der Maria ins Zentrum gestellt, dies gleichzeitig als Vorführung der klassischen Farbtrias Blau, Gelb und Rot, die sich in den weiteren Kleidungsstücken finden. Auffällig und besonders reizend ist das Knabenpaar, rechts zu sehen, das in der sonst ruhigen Haltung der Gestalten hier betont bewegt wiedergegeben ist.
