Clive Walker was born in 1936 and studied art in Johannesburg and London. He worked as a game ranger in Botswana, an experience which afforded him the opportunity to study wildlife, and has travelled extensively in the bush and conducted various expeditions into southern Africa. Actively involved in environmental education and wildlife conservation, he founded the Educational Wildlife Expeditions in 1975, a company which specializes in adult game trails. It was during these wilderness trailing years that he gathered much of the information contained within this book. In 1985 Clive was elected Chairman of the Wilderness Trust of Southern Africa which runs the Lapalala Wilderness School. Today, Clive divides his time between painting, writing, and involvement in various conservation projects. He founded the Endangered Wildlife Trust in 1973, which ranks amongst the top three conservation organizations in South Africa. He is a member of several national and international conservation organizations.
