The furniture is inlaid with bold geometric chevron banding, a type of decoration that had been revived and popularised by George Jack at Morris & Co., however, the use of this technique at Elm Bank was altogether bolder and more expansive. This bedroom suite also demonstrates stained glass detailing derived from plant forms, with metal and wood also inset, relating to techniques being produced by Charles Rennie Mackintosh at the same time.

The dark red foreground trees are silhouetted against the brilliant yellow sunlit leaves behind them. The painting is signed" G. Walton" in the lower left corner. The painting dates from around 1880. It has overall craquelure, showing its age. It is in stable condition, and the canvas was previously laid down on a board, around 1920. It has been gently cleaned (2013) and coated with a non-yellowing varnish. The frame is hand-carved, and may date from around 1920 also. It has a label from a New Jersey framing and restoration company. (see the photo) Painting= 12" x 10"; Frame = 15" x 13"
