Patti Warashina (born 1940 ) Patti Warashina is an artist from America known for her creative ceramic artwork. She was born in 1940 in Spokane, Washington., the youngest of three siblings. She came to Seattle to study sculpture with sculptors, Harold Myers, Rudy Autio, Shoji Hamada, and Ruth Penington at the University of Washington. Warashina graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1962 and a Master of Fine Arts in 1964.

    Patti Warashina (b.1940 Washington) "Kiln with Blowers" 1971 Glazed Ceramic 16"x14"x9". Exceedingly rare funk pottery kiln sculpture composed of low fired clay, underglaze, glaze, and lustre. Exterior applied piping and flames with interior of several blue and white miniature vessels. Unsigned, this work can be seen on the artist's website under the Kiln Series. There are a couple minor flakes to exterior flames and one strap on a pipe missing. Overall excellent condition for its age. This work could easily sit in any major ceramics museum. Pfannebecker Collection Artist Biography American ceramicist Patti Warashina was born in Spokane, Washington in 1940. Both a graduate of and a longtime professor at the University of Washington, Warashina was a key figure in the development of the Seattle ceramic scene. Celebrated as an important contributor to the medium, Warashina is internationally renowned for her sculptural, low-fire clay works that “use the figure in voyeuristic situations in which irony, humor, absurdities portray human behavior as a relief from society’s pressure and frustrations on mankind.” She received National Endowment for the Arts grants in 1975, 1986, and 2013, and was honored with 50-year retrospectives at the American Museum of Ceramic Art and the Bellevue Art Museum in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and is in the collections of the Museum of Arts and Design, New York; National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; and the Smithsonian American Art Museum, among many others.
