Upon returning to Michigan, he married the painter Ilse Eerdmans in 1944. He taught drawing and painting at the Kendall School of Design and worked as an illustrator.

The drypoint etching signed by the artist in pencil below the image lower right, titled lower left (possibly Lucile McIntyre, Missouri and Kansas artist and educator).
