Jan Wiegers - Lithograph 1956 - Hand signed

    Est: €300 - €400

Hand signed - Comes with Passe partout Jan Wiegers (1893-1959) Litho from 1956 on paper van Gelder vergé. Hand signed in pencil and dated. Jan Wiegers (Kommerzijl, July 31, 1893 - Amsterdam, November 30, 1959) was a Dutch expressionist painter. He was the pioneer of De Ploeg in Groningen. Wiegers received his training at the Minerva Academy in Groningen, but he also attended the Academy of Rotterdam and that of The Hague. During a stay in Davos, Switzerland, in 1920, he became friends with the German expressionist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, by whom he was strongly influenced in his art. By then, in 1918, he had already co-founded the Groningen artists' movement De Ploeg. Unlike the expressionists of the Bergen School, Wiegers and the Ploegers, following the example of German Expressionism, brought a strikingly violent color palette. The group included Johan Dijkstra, Jan van der Zee, Hendrik Werkman, George Martens, Jacob Gerard Hansen, Jan Altink, J.G. Jordens and Ekke Abel Kleima. In 1934 he left Groningen and went to Amsterdam to live and work there. He became a professor at the Rijksacademie there in 1953, and died there at the age of 66.

Hand signed - Comes with Passe partout Jan Wiegers (1893-1959) Jan Wiegers (Kommerzijl, July 31, 1893 - Amsterdam, November 30, 1959) was a Dutch expressionist painter.
