Gedächtnisausstellung - Der Maler Wissel, Hannover 1974, Abb. 18, S. 246 Adolf Wissel, Sohn eines Landwirtes zur Zeit des Deutschen Kaiserreichs, konnte sich erfolgreich als Genremaler bäuerlich-ländlicher Sujets etablieren. Er studierte zunächst von 1911 bis 1914 an der Kustgewerbeschule Hannover und später von 1922 bis 1924 an der Akademie in Kassel bei C. Witte. Seine beliebten Werke - dem Stil der Neuen Sachlichkeit verwandt - bestechen durch Klarheit und eine ausdrucksstarke Farbkomposition. Zu Wissels Hauptwerken gehört das Portrait des hannoverschen Malers Franz Müller-Dornhof, den er in seinem Atelier darstellt. Mit feinen Pinselstrichen schafft Wissel ein bestechend realistisches Portrait, dass sich besonders durch seine gekonnt angewandte Lasurtechnik auszeichnet. Das Bild wurde 1974 in der Ausstellung "Neue Sachlichkeit in Hannover" des Kunstvereins Hannover gezeigt. Ein zweites Künstlerbildnis über den "Bildhauer August Waterbeck" entsteht zur gleichen Zeit und befindet sich heute im Historischen Museum Hannover.
