Peter Woytuk (American, b. 1958). Group of eight bronze "Raven" sculptures, forming an unkindness of ravens. Six ravens surmounted atop metal plinths. Each with incised signature along the tail feathers. Provenance: Owings-Dewey Fine Art, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 1999; From the Estate of Gary Fink. Gary C. Fink was a collector with both a lighthearted sense of humor and a serious commitment to art. Peter Woytuk (American/New Mexico, b. 1958) , "Lovebirds", bronze sculpture, signed on self-base, h. 11 in Provenance: Collection of Wendy and the late George (1944-2013) Rodrigue. Note: Peter Woytuks work explores the interplay between convex and concave form and frequently features animals in skewed scale, often in playful situations with fruit and other items such as acorns and bolts. After studying at Kenyon College, Woytuk apprenticed with sculptor Philip Grausman, from whom he learned the techniques of modeling clay, mold making and bronze casting. By 1995, Woytuk had developed a strong presence in American sculpture with exhibitions nationally and internationally. In the case of Lovebirds offered here, Woytuks birds are suspended on a swing. The dark patina offers a mysterious silhouette against the negative space backdrop, showcasing Woytuks mastery of his medium. The artist divides his time between his foundry in Thailand and home in Santa Fe, NM.

Measures 50.75" tall total. Hen alone measures 8.75" tall x 10.75" long. Peter Joseph Woytuk was born in 1958 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was raised in Massachusetts and graduated from Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio in 1980 with a degree in Art. After college he had an old-school style apprenticeship with sculptor Philip Grausman in Connecticut, where he learned the techniques of modeling clay, mold making and bronze casting -thus beginning his own career as a sculptor.
