Selkirk Auctioneers & AppraisersDHIMITRI ZONIA (AMERICAN, 1921-2016) Final Turn & Santa Maria Two etchings, both hand signed and dated 1968-75. Both containing multiple studies, one of various jockey studies, the other studies of the ship. Both matted behind glass in identical frames. Artist Bio:: Dhimitri Zonia was born June 12, 1921 in Saint Louis, Missouri. He studied independently across Italy and England. He is known for his marine paintings, postwar graphic and contemporary work. He worked as Editorial cartoonist for the Postmark Prague from 1984-1986, and the Cry Justice Now, St. Louis, from 1998-2000. He was the first prize recipient of the Missouri Media Association award for his editorial art. Zonia was commissioned to create four separate oil paintings for the Anheuser Busch Brewery in St. Louis, and a poster for the McDonnell Planetarium in St. Louis. He was also a member of the St. Louis Artists Guild of which he was on the governing board. His work has been exhibited at Western Illinois University, the National Traveling Exhibit for Minnesota Museum of Art, Arizona State University, and the University of Missouri at Cape Girardeau. Zonia received 1st prize for editorial art from the Missouri College Media Association. He is also an honorary life member of the Society of Indiana Artists. Later in life, he became an instructor of painting and drawing. Dhimitri Zonia passed away in 2016.
