Zuelow ESTIMATE °€ 1600 - 2600 STARTING PRICE °€ 1600 Austrian painter and graphic artist of the 20th century. Representative of the Classical Modernism. Studied at the Vienna School of Applied Arts from 1903 to 1906 under Felician Myrbach and Carl Otto Czeschka. Explored graphic techniques, developed his own paper-cutting stencil technique in 1907. Participates in the 1908 art show organized by Gustav Klimt and Josef Hoffmann. Commissioned by Josef Hofmann to design wallpaper for a children's room in the Palais Stoclet. From 1909 in Haugsdorf, where his mother and sister lived. 1915 to 1919 military service, became an Italian prisoner of war. 1920 to 1922 teacher at the ceramic workshops Schleiß in Gmunden. From 1922 he commuted between Vienna and Upper Austria. Arts and crafts works and illustrations for the Wiener Werkstätte, among others. From the 1920s also oil paintings, especially landscapes.             Ohne Titel Öl auf Karton. 1927. 31,1 x 39,1 cm. Unten links mit Pinsel in Blau signiert "Fr Zülow" und datiert. Der österreichische Maler und Graphiker Franz von Zülow, der während des Ersten Weltkrieges in Ungarn, Albanien und Italien stationiert und zum Ende des Krieges in italienische Kriegsgefangenschaft geraten war, hat dennoch nichts von seiner Liebe für Italien verloren. So führten ihn zwei Studienreisen während der Jahre 1925 und 1928 erneut nach Italien, wo er erstmals Arbeiten in Öl anfertigte. Das vorliegende Werk aus dem Jahr 1927 scheint in eben jenen Tagen entstanden zu sein, der Kanal und das Boot, welches durchaus auch eine Gondel darstellen könnte, scheinen uns durch die engen Wasserstraßen Venedigs zu führen. Pastose und in den Farben expressive Arbeit.
