The auction house has been established since the 1950’s on the south Essex boarders at Brentwood, now a fast growing commuter town, and the present company have been here since 1989 with new management of Robert and Wendy Wood taking over in 1998.We are a small family business with Robert running the sale room and Wendy is the auctioneer with staff that have been with us from the beginning, as have a lot of our customers.
We have fortnightly auctions alternating antique and general and antique and collectables with nearly all lots submitted for auction coming from private sources.
Our antique sales have a wide range of goods in recent years we have had great success with Royal Worcester with some good prices paid, in the last sale one figure from the countries of the world series fetched £1250.00 + premium. Toys have also done well particularly the trains one fetching £400.00.
The introduction of our web site has increased our customer base with the catalogue on the Web for every sale including colour pictures for the antique sales. We now have inquiries and sales from all over this country as well as some from as far away as America and Australia resulting in frequent visits to the post office.
The Web site has also been a great asset to our special sales like our Clarice Cliff and our Fishing Sales.
The probate side of the business is a good source of furniture for us as well as paintings, boxes, lighting, instruments etc.
Our Antique sales are held on Thursday’s at 11am with viewing Tuesday 9am -5pm and Wednesday 9am-7pm, sale day we open at 9am.
And our General sales are held on Saturday’s at 11am with viewing Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday 9am-5.30pm, sale day we open at 9am.
Although it is usually very busy there is always a very friendly atmosphere. On the last sale before Christmas we bring out the sherry and mince pies to which everyone is welcome and a good time is had by all.
