In 1969, I.M. Chait Gallery/Auctioneers opened its doors as an Asian art gallery, just two years after founder Isadore Chait began selling Chinese antiques from his home. From these humble beginnings, I.M. Chait has grown into one of the leading art galleries and boutique auction houses in Los Angeles, where the family-owned business holds monthly Asian art auctions.
Each auction typically features about 400 items, including everything from Chinese silk paintings to fine porcelains, and these popular auctions frequently sell out. I.M. Chait makes it easy for buyers to bid on fine antiques online; in 2014, they offered 20 auctions online on Invaluable.com for Asian art, international fine arts, antiques and estates, ceramics, and more.
Notable sales of Asian antiques have included a 15th Century gilt bronze figure of a seated Bodhisattva, which sold for $280,000 in March 2014 through the Invaluable platform. Aside from Asian antiques, I.M. Chait also auctions off natural history collections twice a year, featuring rare fossils, ancient minerals and gemstones, and prehistoric animal skeletons. A July 2014 natural history auction featured a breathtaking display of two saber-toothed tigers poised with jaws open dating back 38-34 million years.
I.M. Chait's services include appraisals, consignment and online bidding. Those who want to learn how much their antiques and collectibles are worth can make an appointment with a certified appraiser, who offer their services for a fee. Consigning with I.M. Chait gives sellers a chance to earn a great return; any item that goes unsold is re-cataloged and put up for bid at the next auction until sold.
Unsurprisingly, the most renowned staff member at I.M. Chait is Isadore M. Chait himself, a licensed auctioneer with a high level of expertise in Asian art objects, including porcelains, enamels, jades and more. He has also demonstrated expertise in gemology, American Indian arts and artifacts, antiquities, Art Nouveau and Art Deco, and more.
I.M. Chait regularly issues press releases though the News section of its website, where the auction house provides information on upcoming auctions and notable lots coming up for bid. You can also find them on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. CEO Isadore Chait also has a presence on LinkedIn.
