Porro & C, a young company founded in the spring of 2002, was established with the aim of operating in the highest segment of the art market in Italy , in the sale of important works of art, as well as in the management of important collections and the organisation of high profile and quality auctions.
The company's first sale, A collection of Neapolitan art from the 17th to mid-19th centuries (Una collezione d'arte Napoletana dal '600 alla metà dell'800), held in Milan on April 3, 2003, dispersed an outstanding collection of Parthenopean works of art, ranging from paintings to furniture, Capodimonte porcelain and Castelli maiolica to fine silver and miniatures. The collection, assembled in rather recent years with extreme passion and care also included works by those international artists drawn to Naples for the city's extraordinary cultural fervour such as Vernet, Manglard, Lacroix de Marseille, Scedrin. The Young Art sale, dedicated to Contemporary Art, and in particular to the youngest generations of contemporary artists whose visual language is more closely tied to a figural tradition, was held in Milan on May 20. The most awaited and important sale of the 2003 calendar was held in the fall: the Sale of Old Master Paintings, Furniture and Art Objects of the bankruptcy of the Nadini S.p.A. group (Asta di Dipinti Antichi Mobili e Oggetti d'Arte del fallimento del gruppo Nadini S.p.A.) The paintings in the collection, despite being penalised by the high number of notified works, reached the most noteworthy prices and witnessed an exceptional public participation. In the year 2004, the sale of the 2nd and 3rd parts of the same collection will follow.
