"Het is een van de fraaiste voorbeelden van houtsnede druk in kleur van de 19e eeuw en passend binnen het toen populaire genre van afbeeldingen van vogels" from a letter by Professor Matthi Forrer, curator of Japanese Art of the Rijksmuseum voor Volkenkunde, Leiden, erroneously dating the editions 1880 in spite of his own correct translation of the title page. With a copy of this letter and copies of the text pages in Japanese with some translations in Dutch. The museum holds copies of the same works. Benezit: "Japanese in technique, Western in feeling; emphasis on realistic detail. His technically brilliant style owes much to Western water colors". Rare, especially in this condition. Very good impressions, vivid colours.
