More About this Item

Description: China, Late Ming to early Qing Dynasty, 17th century CE. A pair of mold-made, hollow, bright green ceramic rabbit figures, shown seated with prominent faces and their ears back from their heads. The rabbits are almost identical, although the paint on one is in slightly better condition. The vibrant green of both is a reminder of the skill of Chinese porcelain artisans at Imperial owned and operated pottery factories - the Chinese emperors were great patrons of the art of ceramics. The rabbit is an earth sign from the Chinese zodiac, and plays a prominent role in Chinese mythology. A white rabbit is said to live on the moon, stirring up the elixir of life. Size: 2.95" L x 4.25" W x 3.6" H (7.5 cm x 10.8 cm x 9.1 cm)
