More About this Item

Description: An unbound typed letter/petition by Edward Macarthy to the Secretary of State for the Colonial Department, transmitted through Lord John Russell, dated 25 March 1840. The letter makes a series of requests regarding crime, the rights of former convicts with respect to transportation and appointments to juries and as magistrates, and the inadequecy of the Legislative Council. A foolscap three and a half page document, formatted in the manner of a parliamentary paper. A very good document with some very minor wear and staining of the edges. An interesting historical letter highlighting the historical frustrations and divides between British rule and the realities of the Colonies.
