Description

Die Bibliothek des vor allem als Buchgestalter und als Hersteller der Büchergilde Gutenberg bekannten Juergen Seuss umfasst circa 22.000 Bände. Der leidenschaftliche Büchermacher sammelte nicht nur Titel über Typographie, Illustration, Buchgeschichte und Kunst, sondern suchte Beispiele in originaler Buchgestalt aus unterschiedlichen Epochen zusammen. Zudem finden sich auch schön gemachte Bücher hierfür bekannter Verlage wie Georg Müller, Insel und Diederichs in den Bücherregalen. Sammelschwerpunkte der Arbeitsbibliothek wie z.B. Aufklärung, deutsche Literatur des 18. bis 20.Jahrhunderts, französische Literatur vor allem in deutschen Übersetzungen, französische Geschichte, aber auch russische Literatur und illustrierte Bücher sind zu erkennen. Signierte Bücher befreundeter Autoren, handschriftliche Anmerkungen in von ihm geschätzter oder auch abgelehnter Werke, etliche noch verpackte Belegexemplare von ihm gestalteter Titel der Büchergilde, Faber & Faber, Edition Spangenberg oder des C.H.Beck Verlages sowie zahlreiche Exemplare seines eigenen BrennGlas Verlages zeugen von der Intensität, mit der der spätere Professor für Buchgestaltung sein Leben dem Buch widmete. Besichtigt werden kann die Bibliothek in dem langjährigen Wohnhaus von Juergen Seuss in der Nähe von Frankfurt. Umfangreichere Beschreibungen können angefordert werden. Die Bibliothek umfasst eine Französische Bibliothek (circa 1600 Bände) mit Ausgaben aus dem 19.Jahrhundert, einige in französischer Sprach und in Übersetzungen, aber auch in späteren oder modernen Ausgaben, z.B. Lecomte de l’Isle; George Sand; Mademoiselle La Vallière, Les Favorites de trois Ages de Loouis XIV, 1859; Memoiren des Fürsten Talleyrand, 1891, 5 Bände; Die Erinnerungen der Margarete von Valois, Georg Müller. Vor allem finden sich Titel des 20.Jahrhunderts, wie z.B. die Reihe „Le Livre de Demain“ mit unterschiedlichen Autoren und Illustratoren; Simone de Beauvoir; Albert Camus; Jean-Paul Sartre; Romain Rolland bis hin zu zeitgenössischen Schriftstellern wie Michel Houellebecq zumeist in deutscher Übersetzung. Die sogenannte Kleine Deutsche Bibliothek (circa 2500 Bände) birgt u.a. Titel des 18.Jahrhunderts in originalen Ausgaben. Als Beispiele seien folgende Ausgaben genannt: Hagedorn, Poetische Werke, 1772, 6 Bände in 2 Büchern; Christian Heinrich Schmid, Biographie der Dichter, 1770, 2.Teil; John Locke, Über die Erziehung der Jugend; Friederich Wilhelm Zachariä, Scherzhaft episch und lyrische Gedichte, 2 Bände in einem; Gellert, Sämmtliche Schriften, 1765, 1. und 2. Teil; J.B. Michaelis, Poetische Werke, 1780; Helvetius, Discurs über den Menschen, 1787; Gellert, Sämtliche Schriften 1-4, 8-10 in 3 Bänden, 1767-1768; Wielandkonvolut ca. 20 Bände, dabei: Studien 1-6, Winter, Heidelberg; Agathon Teil 1+2, (Gr.8vo), Teil 3 (8vo), 1794; Sämtliche Werke, Reprint. Zustände sind unterschiedlich, die wissenschaftlichen Titel sind teilweise mit handschriftlichen Notizen vesehen. Die andere Hälfte dieses Raumes zeugt zudem vom Interesse des ehemaligen Besitzers an der Literatur und der Illustration in der ersten Hälfte des 20.Jahrunderts. Desweiteren gibt es in der Bibliothek Bücher der deutschen Literatur der 2.Hälfte des 20.Jahrhunderts, englischer Autoren vor allem in deutschen Übersetzungen, über die Zeitgeschichte unterschiedlicher Epochen und Länder, Philosophie, Kunst - vor allem der italienischen und französischen. Immer wieder finden sich von Autoren signierte und Widmungsexemplare für Juergen Seuss. Auffällig ist der Anteil der Produktion des BrennGlas Verlages von circa 7900 Exemplaren. Wieland Herzfelde „Tagebuch eines Laien“, „Vom Ornament zur Linie. Der frühe Insel-Verlag 1899 bis 1924“, Rudolf Leonhard „Der Tod des Don Quijote“, Wolf Jobst Siedler „Geist und Kommerz“, Klaus Waschk „Neue Zeichnung. Neue Illustration“, Max Vonessamieh Mappenwerk „Menschen“, "Salute GB!, Erinnerungen an den Zeichner und Illustrator Gunter Böhmer" u.a. in zumeist aufwendiger Ausstattung. Vorzugsausgaben sind zudem noch vorhanden.

Auction terms

1. Auctionhouse Kiefer (auctioneer) auctions consigned lots by sellers in its own name on the account of the seller, except for lots owned by Kiefer (see Besitzerverzeichnis).

2. Purchased lots are payable immediately in cash in Euro. Public institutions and libraries are granted a term of 4 weeks from purchase. Other terms of payment depend on individual agreement.

3. Bidding usually begins at approx. 2/3 of the estimate (unless there is is a higher reserve price given by the seller), with increments of 5-10% at the auctioneers discretion. The highest bid wins. If a dispute arises concerning the acceptance of a bid, the lot will be offered again.
In case of equal bids the lot will be drawn. The auctioneer can divide or combine lots, change the order and withdraw lots on reasonable grounds. In doubt the sale of a lot can underlie reservations.

4. The purchaser pays a premium of 25% or 33% on the hammer price, on the total there is to pay VAT (currently VAT of 7 or 19% applies). For Autographs, Antiques, Photographs and Grafics , 33 (includes VAT. Purchasers from outside the EU will be reimbursed the VAT upon proof of export, which isn't needed if goods are shipped by the auctioneer. Purchasers from countries belonging to the EU are subject to the VAT unless providing their VAT identification number as a book- or art-dealer. Prints out of books: 25% buyer's premium and 7% VAT. When bidding online live via an external platform the premium increases by the fees stated on that platform

5. The purchaser acquirers ownership after full payment has been committed. After hand-over of the goods either to the purchaser or, on request of the purchaser, to a shipping company, the risk lies with the purchaser.

7. In case of default the purchaser is liable for all monetary loss to the auctioneer, especially concerning interest. The auctioneer reserves the right to either insist on fulfillment of the payment or to withdraw from the contract of purchase. In this case the auctioneer can demand indemnification equivalent to the amount of the bid (including premium) or to the loss in case of a new sale of the lot. The purchaser is not entitled to participate at this sale or to collect proceeds in case of a higher hammer price realised.

8. There is a public viewing prior to the auction at the dates and times indicated in the catalog. Further information and photographs/scans can also be requested in advance of the auction, permitting time to meet the request. All descriptions are executed with great care, but shall not be part of of the agreed specification of the lot. The auctioneer is not liable for any faults, but is willing to pass on any faults stated in due time to the consigner in order to reach a mutual agreement. All lots are used. If not mentioned otherwise, all lots are in a condition relating to their age. Any complaints concerning the integrity of the lots are not accepted. Complaints concerning the completeness are to be submitted within 7 days after receipt of the lot. Serials, large editions of many volumes and large collections/convoluts will not be collated in particular, but obvious faults will be stated. Lots under the estimate of Euro 120,- will usually not be collated. We don't warrant drinkability of the offered wines and spiritsThe auctioneer is not liable for above mentioned faults and reclamations are not accepted.

9. Written bids are accepted at no cost, and can be submitted directly or by mail. Bids by telephone, telefax or email require written confirmation. Participation at the auction by telephone has to be announced 24 hours prior to the auction and is only accepted for an estimate of Euro 300,- or higher. For bids submitted less than 24 hours prior to the auction the auctioneer cannot garantue correct execution and is therefore not liable. The bidder is liable for any mistakes contained in his bids. Telephone bidders are automatically bidding 2/3 of the estimate price. The hammer price does not include buyers premium and VAT (if applicable). This also applies to after sale purchases.

10. Place of performance and jurisdiction is Pforzheim. German law applies.

11. Should any one of the above terms become invalid it does not affect any remaining provisions.

12. If submitting a bid in any form the purchaser accepts all above mentioned terms.
