Description

HELLENISTIC PERIOD, CIRCA 2ND-1ST CENTURY B.C.
Composed of lengths of chain with links threaded through emerald beads framed by granulated disks alternating with links perhaps once threaded through now-lost pearls, but preserving pairs of granulated disks, centered by a large lozenge-shaped box set with a cabochon garnet, each end hinged to a smaller lozenge-shaped box set with an emerald, then joined by toggle pins threaded through small carnelian beads, joined by loops to lion heads, their collars formed of a striped glass beads framed by granulated saw-tooth caps, and small cabochon garnets at the join, the necklace with leaf-shaped terminals set with cabochon garnets, one side with a link to a loop closure, the other side with a large hook ornamented with a domed disk with beaded wire along the edge and at the center
