blade Muromachi period (16th Century) Koshirae Edo period (19th Century)
Sugata [configuration]: hira-zukuri, iori-mune, Kitae [forging pattern]: itame-hada, Hamon [tempering pattern]: notare-midare becoming gunome in places, widening towards kissaki muneyaki, Boshi [tip]: o-maru with kaeri, Nakago [tang]: ubu, one mekugi-ana, funagata-jiri Habaki [collar]: silvered, Koshirae [mounting]: a fine wakizashi mounting, the koshirae with black lacquered scabbard, all fitting matching and of shakudo nanako with dragon motifs in gold inlay, the kozuka with signature Iwamoto Konkan and kakihan, the round shakudo tsuba with mitsui hiiragi [holly] mon and gold inlaid dragon proceeding along the rim, with signature Yoshitomo, 35.1cm
