More About this Item

Description: A Roman Marble Male Torso – Circa 3rd Century A.D. after the Roman bronze now in the Museo Nazionale, Naples, and probably base on a Hellenistic original. The life-size marble is close to the antique bronze in every respect, but for an additional piece of drapery over his left shoulder. The piece is a tour de force of Hellenistic statuary, the artist conveying the sense of joy and exuberance through the taught muscles of the limbs in chiastic arrangement, left leg and right arm back, opposed to right leg and left arm forward. Height: 70 cm
