Notes

After the demolition of Bedford House, Bloomsbury in 1800 Woburn Abbey, with its 30,000-acre estate and 3,000-acre park, was developed as the central showpiece of the advanced tastes of the 5th Duke of Bedford (d.1803). Its model farm was augmented by John, 6th Duke, who expanded its annual sheep shearings. George Garrard's 1811 engraving depicts the duke inspecting some merino cloth together with various friends, staff and consultants including Thomas Coke, Arthur Young, Joseph Banks, Henry Holland, Robert Salmon and Garrard himself seated beside his agricultural models (see S.Daniels, Humphry Repton, London, 1999, p. 172).
The lithograph of 1811 is after Garrard's 1804 sheepshearing painting (S. Pointer, Woburn Abbey, 1999, p.13).

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis
