The company has its origin in Switzerland as the Alpina Union Horlogerie est. 1883 by Gottlieb Hauser in Biel. This was a cooperative of dealers and manufacturers to produce and sell high quality wrist and pocket watches. A German branch, known as Alpina (Dugena) was established by Emil Rothmann in 1917 in Eisenach. Renamed Dugena in 1942 and moved to Darmstadt/Hessen an der Rheinstrasse in 1946. Since 2009 part of the Nova Tempora Uhren und Schmuck GmbH. For about a century one of the most important German watch manufacturers. Extremely rare. Rarity 12.
