Item Overview

Description

With the TD 21 Alvis presented an evolution of the TC108G concept from the early 50s. Little had changed on the technical side and a standard coachwork originally designed by Hermann Graber in Wichtrach was also used on the TD 21. The completion of the coachwork was not done in Wichtrach though but was handled by the well-established coachworks Park Ward who were primarily connected to Rolls Royce. As one of only 785 examples of the first series, this TD 21 was first registered with the number plate SJU 777 in the name of Mrs Joan Annie Swann in Leicestershire on the 18th of February 1959. After most probably 4 further owners the Alvis was parked in a Leicestershire barn towards the end of the 80s and forgotten. In April 2006, the elegant Brit was discovered by an enthusiast and consequently acquired. The Alvis was dusted and over the following six years restored by the owner himself. All mechanical bits were checked and overhauled as necessary, this included a replacement of the oil cooler, the installation of an electric fan, a new fuel tank as well as a stainless-steel exhaust system. The coachwork was sandblasted and received a new paint, now changed from the original Alice blue to the current British racing green. In November 2012 the TD21 once again was ready to roam the streets of Leicester. Several receipts as well as a set of photographs document the work performed. In 2018 the saloon arrived with a new owner in Oxfordshire who, in the summer of 2021, decided to repaint the car again in its original colour. The engine received an electronic 123 ignition system and the brake rotors and pads at the front were replaced. To satisfy his passive-safety requirements, grey leather seats with integrated headrests and seat belts from a modern car were installed. The last MOT certificate from October 2021 shows that the Alvis has only been driven around 700 miles in the last 3 1/2 years. In February 2024 the Brit was taken over by the vendor and imported into Switzerland. Since his mechanic of many years is about to retire and doesn't have time to prepare the Alvis, he has now decided to sell the car again. The TD 21 is fair to good condition with a three-litre inline 6-cylinder running well and the 4-speed gearbox shifting correctly. The car still has its English registration but Swiss customs duties have been paid.
