Description

An unusual bronze bedroom chimney piece, late 19th century, attributed to Thomas Jeckyll (Norwich 1827-1881), cast all over with scrolls, stylised trailing flowers and bosses, 61cm wide 94cm high opening 39.5cm wide Thomas Jeckyll, architect, designer and leading figure in the British Aesthetic Movement, faded into obscurity during the 20th century because many of his major projects were destroyed or radically altered. His reputation has been resuscitated during the last few decades by scholars who have recognised his talent and importance.
