Notes

VARIOUS PROPERTIES

Francis Richardson relates the present composition to a drawing of Cupid presenting Psyche to the Gods in the Metropolitan Museum of Art (F.L. Richardson, op. cit., no. 185, fig. 116). Dr Richardson further notes that both compositions appear to be adapted from Raphael's fresco in the Farnesina in Rome, and could be projects for the Ca' Collalto where, according to Ridolfi, Schiavone 'divided the story of Psyche into several compartments'.
