Notes

Another male nude study by the same hand, and bearing the same signature or early attribution, is in the Vosmaer Collection at the Rijksprentenkabinet, Amsterdam (see Literature). That drawing was attributed by Marijn Schapelhouman to Daniël Mijtens the Younger, rather than any of the other artists with the same surname, on the basis that there are strong stylistic similarities with drawings by Willem Doudijns and Theodorus van der Scheur, together with whom Daniel Mijtens visited Italy, and also founded the Hague drawing academy, Pictura, in 1682.
